having thoughts about whether the 3.6 is worth doing.

ez36 is only DOHC, where as the ez30r is quad cam...

as i am going to be doing twin turbo, feel the obvious choice should really be an ez30r. so might have a ez36 available to any interested...

and the loom is turning into a nightmare. (availability of any parts for the 3.6 is concerning)!!!

Prob not a bad idea. As there has already been some R and D work into twin turbo-ing the ez30 it may make it a bit easier. plus as you mentioned, more parts available. There was a written off 2006 3.0RB wagon on one of the auction sites a few weeks back. Gone now tho.

seriously what the f*ck are you on about? THEYRE ALL TWIN CAM ENGINES.

Each bank has 2 cams. IE: Quad cam. Are you seriously trying to tell yourself the EZ36 has 4 camshafts per bank?

The differences in the engines are what I listed in my post, which you neglected as you're a teary eyed misinformed delicate rittle frowah.

If each "bank has 2 cams. I.E. Quad Cam." then its a quad cam, not twin cam. my information comes from subaru, not some opinionated ass wipe that knows nothing of what he is saying. Noone suggested the EZ36 was 4 cams a bank. i am suggesting they are twin cam. not quad cam... whereas the ez30r is quad cam...

"Good luck though. The 3.6 is just a 3.0 with a f*cked rod:stroke ratio, f*cked oil pump design. The 3.0r is quad cam so I dont know what you're trying to say? It just lacks exhaust AVLS/AVCS, which would only be a big deal on a hipo e85 daily with a big single to bring some spool on earlier with such low EGT's."

The 3.6 is vastly different. they redesigned the engine completely for the late 09/10+ model. but you would neglect to actually research that as you are a forum leaching, self praising, pathetic excuse for an enthusiast. not one post you have placed on any thread on this forum site, has been positive or contributing. nor do i see anything showing u are anymore than a lonely 25yo BOY, who reads specs from hot 4s or similar, and stores them in his head, to try and appear knowledgable, albeit, looking more moronic than intelligent when you do 'interpret' something. And not one picture, thread or post, of anything you've done yourself, only what appears to be jealous attempts to run down others, in their passionate modification and build up of their project cars or daily drivers. probably drive a gen 1 liberty, with mismatched panels, nil door trims, and a 15" (fully sik) subwoofer that rattles the boot, so al passers by can hear is the car falling apart. in my haste to put a quick update before i went out the door to go to sydney, i posted dohc, as opposed to correctly stating twin cam, but ya get that. flippant slip of the tongue does not come close to your uncollected matter of dribble.

find something better to do...

i think so to, the r&d doesnt bother me, but if i need even the simplest of parts, it mean waiting up to 2 months for the part to come from america or japan. not worth the hassle. the ez30 is just the better option...got a friend of mine looking for a ez30 manual cut in japan early new year. hopfully something good will come up... 3.or-b driveline swap would be awesome as donor for tt setup...

BU77IT is an awesome example.

Pulse learnt a bit from BU77IT. Their second attempt was a much cleaner engine bay.

Nice rant too but on the DOHC/twin cam/quad cam thing, a quick look on the Subaru OZ site indicates "DOHC" (with AVCS). Now without sticking my head in an engine bay, I'd suggest this means two cams per bank

correct, my apologise. "Valve mechanism - DOHC with Dual AVCS", straight from subaru oz. i was going on information given to me by my local subaru licensed workshop...obviously this moron doesnt deserve his pay. and i should have done more research. my apologise to ian, you were partially right, the 3.6 is quad cam, however doesnt change the fact twin cam does not refer to a quad cam in the instance of v-block or Boxer engines.

thanks for clearing that up smythie!

still stand by my word though ian, you need to find something better to do than attempt to belittle the other forum members.

Subaru disagrees with you. Quad cam is a generic term most manufacturers use to distinguish single and twin overhead cam engines in paired banks. Subaru even defined the single cam EA18 as twin cam in some ancient bits of sales speel.

One has AVLS on intake

Other has it on intake and exhaust.

The 36 is a dog not worth messing with. To do anything worthwhile you should destroke it to 3.0L anyway. Anyone serious should be tempted to destroke to 2.8L and get some real RPM out of it with a proper rod to stroke ratio. Dare say I'll be comfortable with 600+hp from under 7000rpm though which is quite comfortable with 6 rods and not 4.. You'd want to be chasing the sky in a properly fully CD block on meth with sleeves big enough to house chernobyl to warrant a serious destroke and custom crank (1200+hp).

And I dare say you'll never find someone seriously trying to tell you their twin cam subaru heads are 'twin cam' when theyre single cam. They would have to be a moron of the highest order.

This is just basic terminology...

Twin cam v8...must only have 2 right? (quoted several times in every article you care to google)

Remember we are talking about a Japanese translation to English. Technically the SOHC Subaru engine are true "twin cam" as the cam profiles are identical and this is where the misinterpretation comes from. Toyota's uses of Twin Cam was a marketing term as DOHC on the AE86 for example didn't mean anything to non-car people. Quad Cam was originally coined back in the 60s by Ferrari, on one of their GT models I think. It's the misuse of tech terms as a marketing tool that causes confusion.

i agree with you here ian, hence why i have decided to go ez30...and parts availability also helped make the final determination. no point building a car, when at first sign of trouble its off the road for months at a time!!!

In my experience two small turbos simply reduce lag and just makes the car much easier to live with from day to day with all that power, though you won't get as much top end grunt. If you want animalistic top end grunt then one big turbo will always deliver... Good luck with your build. :D

i guess you have not driven a gen 3 B4 twin turbo yet. remember you car is parallel and not sequential twin turbo as in a gen 3 B4 . if you choose the correct turbo and tune on your setup any turbo is drivable. my focus start coming on boost from 1500rpm.

Point taken... Would love to see your Focus - is it the 5 pot engine - one of my fav engines.
