Postby Percy » Wed Nov 24, 2010 12:10 pm

Hey guys, this may have been asked before but, can i actually fit a spec B front bumper on a stock
2.5i (07) ? I would love to do this as it would look more aggressive, any help would be greatly appreciated

Cheers Percy

Its not going to be a simple task. It can be done but if you think about it the mesh and fog inserts sit in different positions, that means you need not only a specb bumper, but new fogs new inserts, new reo bar, maybe new bumper clips. I have seen it done before but is it really worth it?
I would prefer makin your current one look tougher with a bottom lip but each to there own.

Check with Jim aka Arith .. as he went from a Spec B front bar to non Spec b bar.

but i would say it's pretty straight forward the only thing you need to get is new grill fog light unit is the same ..

Yes it can be done, same as I got the spec.B bumper fitted to my GT (pre-facelift). Things you may/will need:

* Replacement front bar (duh)
* Fog lights and fog light mounts.
* Foam (crumple bar) behind the front bumper. You can probably get away with shaving this though.
* Wheel arch lining (I found with my front bar swap, the lining was slightly shorter. A new one wasn't necessary, but neater)
* Clips

I think that's it.

Thanks for the feedback guys its much appreciated. I do like my front bar definitely think its nicer out of the non spec b range.
I was just curious as i do like the spec B bumper, but as hamish has said it will still look mean with the front lip.

Mmmm much easier to get the front lip then replace the bumper

cheers guys

Thanks for the mention Leo. Luckily I've had the privilege of watching Phat GT installl my non-Spec B front bar first hand when I had my Zero/Sports front lip fitted. Don't get me wrong, the Spec B front bar is nice with the STi lip, but I found the curves of the Zero/Sports lip more appealing. And unfortunately the Zero/Sports lip looked better matched with the non-Spec B front bar.

With the post-face lifted Gen IV Libertys, Subaru made the parts a lot more interchangeable to save on costs and parts. This works out well for those of us who want to swap around.

So the only thing you need to change to a Spec B bumper:

1) x1 Spec B bumper
2) x2 foglight surrounds

As for the remaining bits

* Foglights - The foglights and mounts were a straight swap with no modification or additional parts required
* Grill - Interchangeable grill so it will fit the Spec B bumper without issue
* Reinforcement Bar - Interchangeable so it's a straight swap
* Wheel Arch Lining - Will fit both bumpers so no need for replacement or modification
* Clips & Mounting Points - Same same
* Toe Hook Cover - The non-Spec B bumper has an additional cover for the toe hook. On the Spec B it hides behind the elongated foglight surround so no additional cover is required
* Front Lip - The front lip is NOT interchangeable between the two bumpers. So if you plan on changing, change the bumper first and then get the lip. However I have heard of people 'making' the lip fit from one to the other with some modifications.

Let me know if you're interested in making this happen. I have a spare set of genuine Subaru Spec B foglight surrounds that are still unopened that I will sell for very cheap. It's also too bad you're not in Sydney, as the smash repair shop may still have my old Spec B front bar and said they would let it go for cheap.

Wow... Lucky you guys. My Spec.B swap cost me a fortune in accessories and parts, *sigh* :(

In the end it cost almost as much as getting an aftermarket bumper from Japan :P but at least it's not fibreglass!
