I was looking at Gen3's and my decision came down to the Outback being offered in the 3.0L H6 variant. I also liked the increased ground clearance which I've put to good use both in town and out of town. Also - the Outback H6 is a much higher spec than the Liberty 2.5's (Momo wheel, DEFI dash cluster, different seats with full electrics etc).

Also - you've gotta love that two tone bodywork

I originally bought the Outback for my wife who wanted another Prado. I had a Lib wagon with Bilsteins and the Outback is better suited to the roads up here in Jindabyne and the dirt tracks getting into mountain biking areas. Been really happy with it and have since sold the Liberty and kept the Outback.

nothing wrong with an outback i had a gen3 otuback limited and loved it , but there comes a time where you have to move on
and find a new pride and joy !!

i had the 3.0 outback for 4 years and just added a new liberty to the garage. We nearly bought the liberty initially, but a week at rainbow beach and fraser island made the decision to get the OB the right one. we drove everywhere the big boys could go and even a couple of places they couldnt.

i love my new liberty, but if i am going fishing or camping the the outback gets the nod every time, that little bit of extra ground clearance, 3.0 engine, and a bit of off road credibility makes the difference for me.

I realise this is an old thread. I bought mine because the Liberty doesn't come in a diesel.

I've just bought the Outback 3.6R to replace an Outback 3.0R.

The reason for the Outback? Because in my earlier Rover 75 I was sick and tired of scraping the underside on driveways, speed humps and other road hazards.

And it's been fun being able to go off road and go down old unsealed tracks ever since.

How does it compare overall with your 3.0L. It seems a lot bigger car in the flesh, but apart from that, is it as nice to drive?
