A few general questions

Postby polishka » Sat Nov 06, 2010 5:23 pm

Hi guys,

I unexpectedly came across what I thought was a great deal on an 07 Liberty recently and purchased it thereafter. Without knowing anything about these cars apart from what I have read on this forum so far, I have a couple of basic questions you might be able to help with.

Firstly, how are you able to tell whether it is the 2.0R or 2.5i version? I suspect I have the 2.5i as the car rego certificate states 'Badge - 2.5l', but was curious as to how else I can confirm this.

Secondly, I am wanting to hook up an existing sub/amp to the original head unit and was wondering what the sound options were when the 07's were initially being sold. I have read bits and pieces about the Macintosh systems, but want to be able to define what set up I currently have.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Greg

2.5i has dual exhaust. That's the most obvious difference visually.

Well that answers question 1 then, 2.5i it is.

you do not have the Mackintosh system, that came in only the premium models.
It would say Mackintosh on the head unit if you did have one.

I could be wrong, but judging from redbook......

2.5i appears to come standard with sunroof, if you don't have a sunroof don't panick! this is just redbook...

Hmm, I thought MY07 onwards was 2.5L, I could be wrong.

Also, if you have the McIntosh system (see below), then you don't really need to wired sup/amp, unless you really want it to go doof doof.

Sorry champ, but you are indeed wrong.

MY07 came with the 2.0R

MY08 removed all the 2.0 engines and replaced with the 2.5.

In the 2.5i only the 'Safety pack' versions came with a sunroof. They also came with a couple of extra airbags, however the 'safety pack' is not listed on redbook, despite my efforts to convince dealers that it does exist.

The easiest way to check what engine is in your car is it will be printed on one of the compliance plates in the engine bay. On mine, I think it's the plate above the front right strut, it says 'EJ25*******'.

As for fuel, I only used 98. However this was more to get a little more pull out of the car haha.

I use only 98 also, however if you read inside the bonnet it states no lower than 95. since the day I've bought it I have only run on 98, fill it on days that are cheap and you'll be paying the same as 95 because of the better milage. The engine loves it :D cleaner fuel and a little more power no pinging at all, I haven't checked on my gen 4 but on the gen 3 it had ej25 printed on the engine block

From MY07 onwards, there was no more 'Safety Pack' as all the models came with 8 airbags. Between the 2.0R and the 2.5i there is no obvious feature that will set them apart. The 2.0R didn't come with leather seats or sunroof. Best bet is to look in the engine bay as most have said and on the compliance plate it will have an engine number starting with EJ20 for 2.0R or EJ25 for 2.5i

In terms of upgrading the sound system in your car, there are a few options. Firstly, upgrade the front speakers and sound deaden the front doors.

If you want to keep the stock headunit and add a sub, it can be done. Just need an amp and a sub plus wiring. I went for an 8" mounted in the parcel shelf and at the moment its serving its purpose well. You can also choose a bigger sub and mount it with a box in the boot, but I chose the 8" because I need my boot space.

(mind you, I have changed my front speakers since that youtube clip.)

If you want to change the headunit, thats a cost in itself. You will need a fascia kit either from PHAT GT or japanparts.com. However, the fascia kit alone will set you back about $400. Then add headunit and you will still have stock speakers.
