high tech mufflers

has anyone had their sti quads replaced with high tech quads? and is it worth doing for an extra 6 or 7 kw would i notice the differance would like to do it for the sound as well what do you think?

Performance i would say there's bang-for-buck mods as Hitech's are pretty expensive brand new. Mufflers (even the sti ones) and dumps look pretty restrictive but Dump pipe seems to be more restrictive so it your choice of weighing up performance vs sound.

Although you could always sell your sti mufflers for a few $$$ and come out alright.

i thought $900 fitterd was not to bad really, i would never sell mine so i can slap them back on when i sell the car

That's not to bad considering they are S/S quads i assume? thought might have been more from previous quotes, if i was you id go muffler change.

Dump pipe would be also around that price.

You would be surprised about the difference it actually makes, I had a set phat quads fitted (slightly large then the high techs) with stock dump pipe and centre, the extra response was very noticeable.

Just make sure the Hi techs are the latest design which doesn’t melt your rear bumper

thanks for the advice guys this is the only mod i want to do so i want to get it right, i looked at the quads today they look good and i know lambros through a friend thats whey the price is good i suppose ill have to chuck him a couple of bags of coffee i think

Sorry, just a general rant. Nothing at you. But good luck. $900 is a good price for a group buy/friend of a friend rate, as they go for $1,300 retail (goes to show what a mark up they put on it). They're even cheaper if you're a family friend!

This was one of my first mods, and yes, it does make a difference even when you still have the factory dump pipe and centre. Response is quicker when you step on the pedal, and the sweet noise it makes just puts a smile on your face.

hehe i'm still going to hold out for Phat's quads for my wagon... Cant afford to do a dump and centre pipe... well not all at once.

Thanks Arith I'll take you advice on board I love all the help we get on this site and the quick response, and I was quoterd $1040 he offerd them for 900 once we got talking and I told him who I was, $1300 seems a bit steep, ar Phats that much better? Sorry for all the questions I'm new at this thanks heaps

The bodies Phat used are genuine straight through 2.5". The Hitech, while more straight through than the OEM mufflers has about 1.75" inner pipes and the incoming flow is not smoothly split - it enters a chamber where it then has to make its way through hard corners into the two pipes. The Hitech bodies will be easier to get a hold of (than the Phat items) and less restrictive than OEM and STi mufflers. If you can get them at $900 (which I believe is a fair price for them), go for it

Has anyone had any issues with the new version? I heard the first generation production had issues like melting the bumper and so.
