ecu diagnosis, hardware, and software

Postby jamos166 » Fri Oct 22, 2010 11:24 am

hi guys,

I am new on the forum. A great concept. I have learnt a fair bit already in diagnosing a problem i had with idle on my 05GT. I have to change the O2 sensor, found one cheap on ebay for $250.

I am wanting to do some of my own diagnostic work on both my libertys (i have a 2000 RX liberty too). The questions i have are:
1. What cable do i need to plug into the car ecu's for diagnostic information for my laptop? Is this cable interchangeable for both liberty models?
2. Where do i get the cable from? How much? ($)
3. What is the best software to use for this diagnostic work?
4. Where do i get this software from? How much? ($)
5. Upgrading ecu maps for performance. Is this possible and where is the best place to look?

Thanks heaps,
James

Have a look at this post: How To Use a $20 VAG-COM Cable To Read/Flash/Log ECU's
and in this forum: Tuning

(as far as I know, that cable can be used up to MY06. It doesn't work on CAN BUS ECUs, which Subaru introduced from MY07)

Edit: I've just closed this topic, as I see you've already asked the same question at viewtopic.php?f=56&t=10333
