Suspension Changeover.

Postby rickerty » Wed Oct 20, 2010 9:27 pm

Ok, I've searched & read almost every board I can find and cannot find what I'm looking for.
Could one of you kind gentlemen please point me in the direction of a suspension changeover DIY walkthrough.
From what I gather it's not difficult but would just like solid info on order of removal/replacement (bolt order),
nut torque requirements if applicable, any issues I may face etc.
I haven't done this before but am willing have a crack.

Have you had a look through the workshop manual for the pre-facelift cars? The suspension points should be identical but if not, the concept should be.

Hey Rick,

Let me know how it goes, im looking at swapping my cars suspension to bilsteins also. Are you going with different springs or the ones that come with the struts?

Hey Aaron, I'm Keeping the springs that are in the strut assembly.
I don't want it low just stiffer and more stable.

Stage 1 complete. Did the rears today after work, didn't have time to do the fronts as the miff has no idea what I'm up to and
had to have all tools/evidence cleaned up and put away by 7pm.
Did a few laps of the block and it already feels so much better, the back feels great! Can't wait to do the fronts on Monday.

Oh, and Aaron. It's an easy job, really. The first side took about 30mins and the 2nd under 10mins.

Will keep you posted with the outcome of the fronts.

If you dont have to dismantle springs from the struts it pretty easy. Just dont forget the alignment, or you will scrub out the tyres pretty quickly.
What size rims are you on ?

Just the stock 17's atm.
Don't worry I'll be headed straight to Jax when I'm done.
Was hoping to get them in this week but been working too much and then knackered in my free time,
hopefully this weekend get it wrapped up.

Hey Todda,
All done mate. It wasn't difficult at all, it was also a good opportunity to get in and check the condition of the bushes and everything too.
The ride feels great in comparison... next up: Sway's & Brace I'd say
