Postby bradh » Fri Sep 24, 2010 3:35 pm

hi everyone
i have a 2005 liberty 3.0RB and want to put some "eyelids" on the headlights. problem is i have no idea on how to get the existing plastic covers off.
can anyone help? maybe supply some instructions or pics please?

the headlight covers seem to be flush onto the headlights, i cant see any gap or way to remove?

thanks

Mine were just clipped on (genuine Subaru). Remove the clips then remove the rubber dampeners.

Perhaps yours are the aftermarket adhesive type which stick directly onto the headlight, in which case you need to get them really hot by leaving the headlights on for a bit, (high beams as well). Then gently peel it off and use citrus cleaner or similar to get all the adhesive off.

yeah no clips - hence the puzzle of how to get off. i will double check to see if they are stuck on with adhesive.
i might even try and post a photo which may help shed some light on it.

I was going to suggest you post a pic.
It's quite obvious how to remove the genuine covers, so this must be some after market one.

trying to upload a pic but i get the message - file has to be less then 256kb?
if i reduce the quality of the pic to be under 256kb then you cant see the detail needed to get a good look at the headlight...
can someone offer any ideas?
thanks

Can't actually see what you're talking about.

a) Wash your car and take some better photos preferably with the bonnet up so we can see the edge of the headlight.

or

B) It is an adhesive/film type protector onto which eyelids are unlikely to fit well

or

C) You don't actually have any protectors and you are looking at the wrong thing. Tap a screwdriver or hard object onto the headlight, does it sound like hard plastic? If so I am probably correct. If it sounds like a dull thud like hard rubberised type coating then you have "B"

I would say it's an adhesive cover, just stick your eyelids on top of it.

apologies i should have cleaned the car before the pics..
i have tried tapping on the lense and it sounds like a hard plastic sound, which may indicate a film or no cover at all..
i was under the impression though that it should sound more like glass, or am i mistaken?

It's not glass it's polycarbonate plastic I believe.
