New Alpine product rumors -All in ones's???

Postby jslayz » Wed Sep 01, 2010 3:32 am

Hi everyone,

I have commenced the search for a new head unit after receiving the double din JDM facia kit on Monday.

Was told today by local JB hifi that in about 8 weeks there will be new Alpine 'all in one' gear coming out.

Has anyone else heard of this?

No it's not. That is the current range, please check before posting 'facts' and eye rolling icons.

The 407 is not an all in one, it still needs the nav unit plugged in.... the info I was told is that the new Alpines are truly 'all in one', Bluetooth, nav etc...

Anyway, anyone got some solid info?

Dont think thats what he is after. As it has a standalone nav unit that connects to the 7" screen.

BTW, what's wrong with having the 7" with the standalone nav unit? I mean, its only going to be hidden anyway.

Hi,

I have been looking at the IVA W502 but it has been around for over 2 years......
Knew it would be time for a replacement to their flagship model.....just unable to find any info.

Apparently the current deals $2299 for IVAW502EBT(has bluetooth and iPod) + Nav unit are to move out this old model.

Guess i'll just wait till october.

You didn't really specify did you? 'All in ones' can mean just about anything, mate!

To be honest mate, i wouldnt be holding my breath on a true All In One unit from Alpine. For years they have been making products with features that require addons, and its with addons that they make their money. Look at all the standard decks that have 'Full speed ipod connection'. If it doesnt come with the cable in the box, expect to pay $50 for the cable if not more.

Take the CDA-9887 (last years flagship 1DIN cd-receiver), it was HD ready with HD addon that cost a crapload.

Now they have finally integrated the HD into the CDA-117 (this years flagship) BUT they still havnt done anything about integrated bluetooth and stuff like that.

I guess it also comes down to the fact that most people when buying the Alpine products look for sound quality and tuning features. Inside that 1DIN or 2DIN chassis, theres only enough space for a certain amount of features. Once you start to put too much in, you have to remove other crap to make it all fit.

For example, the CDA-117 doesnt have built in bluetooth, whereas the CDA-103EBTi does have built in bluetooth, but less audio features. Also, the CDA-117 has 4V pre-outs as opposed to the 2V pre-outs of the CDA-103EBTi.

End of the day, id be looking at getting a unit that has good tuning and sound quality features with possible upgrades and stuff. Then just go out and buy the upgrades that you want and install them behind the dash. Or ask for a deal with the parts that you want, most places will do good deals if you buy as a package.

I have read on a few forums that i browse quiet often that alpine doesnt plan on bringing out a stand alone unit for the exact reasons stated. they cant fit everything into the 1 or 2 din models without forgoing a number of tuning features.

I like the options of the add ons becuase in the long run if you dont want the nav or the blue tooth but you would like the imprint sound processor then you save your money by not having stuff that you will not use like if you already own a stand alone GPS like a tom tom.

they do have stand alone units in america with the interegrated nav and stuff like that. Alpine INA-W900 is apparently the fully interegrated system in the US im not 100% certain on this.

so to sum it all up. i wouldnt be getting my hopes up for an all in one alpine system especially from a source such as JB HIFI as they are not what you would really call a car audio specialist.

Jump on mobile electronics australia website someone there might be able to tell you more

The chaps rang the Alpine distributor and had a discussion with him.....
He advised the 'all in one' is coming.??..

Not being able to fit in features doesnt sound right, well not with with more and more features going directly onto silicone every generation.
Also if they use the pdx style amplification it will free up even more room......
It may provide a more customisable solution but it complicates an installation.

An all in one box that the dealer activates the features you are paying for at the time of install (or later if you pay) makes much greater manufacturing sense as you only need to tool up once and you cover all purchasable configurations. Then you would have a global solution too...

I was searching mea but no luck.

Essentially, isnt this the same as buying one of alpines current Mobile Media Stations/Digital Media Station and then buying the addon's that you require? Only difference is instead of it being standalone hidden behind ur dash somewhere, its incorporated into the headunit.

Personally, i still dont see it happening but whatever. Ill take the standalones any day because if say my GPS unit were to screw up, i could take just the GPS out and send that in for repairs without having to remove the headunit, and then id still have my radio/cd/ipod still working while the GPS is gettin repaired.

+1 for this. my gps did stuff up and it was awesome being able to just remove it and take it into the shop admittedly they did just get a new one of the store room and give it to me there and then as it was only 3 weeks old but i never had a problem since. I would much rather remove one thing and send it away then have a big hole in my dash while the whole unit is at the shop

I can see the other side of this ,I hate having a GPS standalone on the windscreen. Call me a clean freak but i want an all in one to keep everything looking where it's meant to be, not suctioned on the window with a charging cord hanging over the dash...

Honestly though how often does you Radio/Cd player break though? mine have never

Sorry if i didnt make myself clear, but i was talkin about the stand alone addons for the headunits. Such as this one http://alpine.com.au/showItem.php?item_id=177

Its standalone from the headunit, but it is displayed on the headunit and is generally mounted somewhere hidden in the car. (Generally inside the dash). Id prefer to have those types of addons rather than everything built into the headunit chassis.

well the allinone rumors were unfounded, here is a link to the new Alpine head unit:

http://www.alpine.lu/produits/product-singleview/mobile-media-stations/iva-w520r.html

Has a much nicer GUI than previous ones.

I'll be getting one soon and will start a new thread on my experience.
