exhaust + beefy sound

Postby AussieTemplar » Mon Sep 27, 2010 8:32 pm

hey all,

looking for the best way to get that subaru boxer burble/growl out of my 99 rx gen3. is it worth getting a completely new exhaust sytem? getting uneven headers? a new muffler? you tell me!

not overly worried about budget and such.. but its not so much performance enhancements im looking at, just aesthetically pleasing sound.

thanks all!

You will need uneven headers to start

it's not dodgy or anything? i know its a replica but from research apparently the borlas crack where as the replicas dont.. if i buy these headers does this mean i'd need to buy a muffler too? thanks.

Pretty sure it's been established earlier that those replicas are not suitable for RHD as they are orientated the wrong way for our cars.

Go to your nearest reputible exhaust shop and tell them you want a fully customised turboback exhaust, as well as uneven headers. They should be able to whip something up for you and install it within a day or two.

You need a full system. I would talk to the young blokes on oz liberty or Suby club there into that kind of stuff.

i just got a catback from liverpool exhausts and it sounds great. really low, quite growly with a bit of a burble. it doesnt sound exactly like a rex but it still sounds awesome, even without headers. i got a twin 2.5 inch dump as the tip, 350 all up.

i reckon try a cat back, if you dont like it, get the headers done. remember that uneven headers do bugger all for power/torque, where as even headers boost torque significantly.

2 1/4 inch buddy. he said any bigger and it would start draining power from the engine as its an auto. sounds fairly attractive!
