I'm expecting around the 1k mark for a tune from Horse Power Factory, I haven't spoken to them or anything about it but I just seem to see 800-$1000 thrown around a lot for the first tune from all tuning places?
What exactly do they do, do they add on some extra PC board sort of thing and then dyno it? Or is it literally just plugging in to the ECU and flashing with a bit of software then running on the Dyno?

have they recommended any pre dyno work.
I always change oil, filter, add a Subaru fuel bottle, new air filter, UEC and it's ready.
I never add Octane booster. The car does what it does. No dodgy figures here.

That bottle they give you to put in the tank between services.... I don't think it's an octane booster.

Interesting, I'm yet to service mine (getting it done before the next cruise) so I'll see what it is.
Maybe it's to help clean out the fuel filter a bit or something? Jim told me the fuel filter replacement is harder on my sort of lib so it doesn't get done very often or something? I dunno :\

The Fuel Additive is an injector cleaner, not as good as the power flush. I have not long had a service, less than 2k ago when all the head works were done.
I do have a nice new HKS Panel Filter which I will swap out with the existing HKS filter tomorrow morning.

The pre works that Vin used to do was just the Power Flush. I don't know how often that should be done and not sure if Rev Zone can do it, but I will ask tomorrow. I have only had one Power Flush and that was prior to the 1st V-Tune.

I did have Vaccine have a go at trying to connect during the last cruise. He was able to connect, but not to download (I think). I was considering getting the Tactrix 2.0 OBDII cable and mini notebook, Romraider, ECUFlash software, but then, I would be tuning every weekend and in more trouble than I am at the moment!

So, I have constrained myself at the moment. It is difficult, what with $400 notebooks available, $200 Tactrix cable and free software!

There is a down side, if you get things wrong during the ECU Flash (writing process) you can turn you vehicle into a nice lounge suite until you can afford to buy a new ECU from Subaru! That has sort of put me off a bit as I need the car daily.

Thats where you save your original factory tune...and each subsequent tune...dated and noted....240v power...not battery
It'll be good to hear how things go...and compare different tuners recommendations.

Well, dropped the vehicle at RevZone today and they could not find a decoder (XML file) to interpret the ROM (D2ZY101H). They even searched the Internet for my ROM and nothing shows up. So, no tune could be performed, but at least they did do a dyno run and indicated all is good after the head work done recently, no pinging, etc.

On their dyno, I have 132.8 Kw atw. Not bad for a sludge box! Will get the graph by email in a day or two.

Still a little dissappointed as I was looking forward to the removal of some of the DBW lag. No fault of Rev Zone though. And the customer service was excellent. On top of that, as they could not do the tune, there was no charge.

Prior to commencing, we agreed that because the vehicle had already been tuned previously (V-Tune by STI) that they would charge 166 per hour of tuning/dyno time. Estimated at 3 hours.

Anyway, If I can find a decoder for my ROM, I will take it back to them for another try.

I hope you guys aren't expecting much the H6, in the later models really does run pretty close to the edge, if your lucky you might get a couple of extra degrees advance maximum but that's with a good 98 and even then some motors won't do much. If you see 10Kw atw buy yourself a lottery ticket
You can modify the DBW stuff and the switching from closed to open loop. AVCS is almost perfect and well thats about it.

Get Westminist to do it remotely and enjoy the learning experience.

The definition isn't a problem if you know what your doing

Agree. Not much gain to be had in the numbers, but really want to sort the "turbo lag" from my NA. The standard DBW is giving me the sh...

In the mean time, I have been in contact with West Minist (Edward) and he reckons he has a solution.

So, the next mod for me will be a new notebook and Tactix cable.

Ahh cool,
Edward can sort the DBW to your own personal taste too which is probably the most important part with this one, even in my Spec B I still chop and change between different DBW combinations. Most of the competent workshops can do this too - including us but of course its at the hourly rate and they aren't charities so it does cost. If your prepared to do the time yourself then its definitely worth doing it this way.
