Fitting STI Quads DIY???

Not being smart ass, this is a serious question, why would I remove the tips if ive got the whole muffler? Do you recommend this or something? Do STI even sell tips by themselves? and whats a hangar

I know he was referring to himself not trying to be a smart ass. But his question revolved around why I asked about the tips in the first place which I wanted to address. If he asked a valid question which I posted a valid question/answer, his new question would have been valid as well. Hahaha.

I think he means the mufflers except the tips are exactly the same as the stock ones, and about 10^6 times more expensive if you buy them from Subaru.....

basically i wanted to ask a question which people would think I was being a smart ass, thats why I clarrified im not being a smart ass so you guys would take me seriously...

Looks like I will be doing a DIY job As for the Hangar, there is no rubber attached tho these mufflers, or is the hangar on my current mufflers and I use it on these?

Also, I think there is some dirt n stuff inside these if I rattle them around... Can I hose these out? Any reccomendations?

I had a post up for months asking for ppl who r selling quad mufflers, whether they be sti, hitech, phats whatever. These STI ones were the first to come around, at @ $600 with only 3 months usage I think I got a pretty good deal...

Lets just be clear, subaru used the same muffler and just put the pretty sti tips on so you basically paid $600 for tips

TBH, I think the muffler body is a bit different, or at least has less baffling? (sound reduction stuff?) because they don't sound anyhtig like the stock ones. That said, that could maybe attributed to the tips?

The hitechs are only sorta straight through. Nothing like the bodies Phat used

If I remember correctly, both mufflers are the same. The STi version has an extra outlet pipe, which accounts for slightly more noise and air flow. But still very restrictive and quiet to keep within regulation and rules.

Whats the go with gaskets etc???

I know I can use a sealant and my old one, but I cant seem to buy brand new ones anywhere?

SHould my old one and a sealant be fine? What did you guys use when doing DIY???

Personally, if tightening by hand I would buy some exhaust gasket seal (red silicon like stuff) and use the smallest smear on the existing gaskets, or if you have access to a rattle gun, don't even bother, just rattle them up tight...
