A Turbo for the sound...

Postby Golf Tango - Bravo » Tue Sep 07, 2010 9:19 pm

Hi,

Firstly thankyou to all the people who've answered my other posts. This forum has been part of owning the car I didn't imagine and some of the topics have inspired me to 'enhance' (or what a mate calls "f#&k with") my Lib.

So now at this part of my life I've come to the point where speed doesn't worry me any more. The suspension's been "f#%ked with" so it handles right. The exhaust and tuning has also been "f#%ked with" so there is a little extra excitement there and its noisy.

As a heavy vehicle driver, I have decided that what I am after is a turbo that sounds like it off a Kenworth with a 650hp Cummins ISX. I am not after speed or torque here because I like my nice OEM box and diffs, and quite frankly I don't care about lag because I know how to drive and if it just blows the boost straight back out into the exhaust, fine. I just purely want the sound (HOWEVER not that horrible "WOBbobobububbll" blowoff valve racket).

What I am after is what should I do, what particular system to recommend, how it should be set up not to blow it to bits and who do I see? I am at both Bass Hill (look out for the noisy blue one on black QLD plates) and also on the Gold Coast.

Don't tell me I should have bought a Landcruiser. I have the best on and off the road.

GT-B.

Replace the airbox, filter and black plastic pipe between the AFM and turbo.

Or put a screamer pipe on it :D

Sir, I am a coach driver. I have no idea what you are talking about. Is that a dig at the high crime rate of Chezzo aka The Chez aka Mt Chezzus?

Silicon intake pipe will give you more whistle. It still won't sound like a truck with 110psi boost...

Big ball-bearing turbo + external gate and screamer pipe, silicone intake to some sort of POD filter... Should make all the noises to make your heart smile!! :D

LOL! It is, Andy. But the fact that the guy wants less-than-legal noise to begin with, I don't think he's too worried about the legalities. :P

But i too love the sound of a truck turbo spooling up. We fitted a turbo off a Kenworth onto a 4litre ford, sounded horn, lasted 5 minutes
