Probably not so much the coilovers but the ride height you set them at.

if you don't go lower than 100mm off the ground you are fine. That may change if the new law comes in though, then you cant go lower than 5cm from stock (or something like that) without getting it engineered.

You shouldn't have problems passing rego with them but it doesn't exactly make them legal cos a cop can defect you for whatever he wants. They are however engineerable so they can be made legal.

most coil overs wont meet the requirements of 2/3 of manufacturers suspension travel and if they dont they are deemed illegal

Hmmm I was reading a few posts saying that since coilovers are adjustable they won't pass rego cos u can always jus go away and make them ridiculously low after the inspection? Not that I tune my coilovers that low. True on the comment cops defect on anything but I got pulled over for cornering too aggressively and they jus told me to slow down after the cop said my car was lowered about 20 time to his collegue!
Also asking the qs cos I'm getting new insurance and wanted to know what fits under " unlimited modifications as long as they are legal" lol

The thing we got picked on getting the rally car registered was the brake house routing. As 95 percent of coilovers don't feature the factory brake house mounts you have to be really careful of how your secure the brake hoses. Zip-ties will not cut it!!! You will need to fashion a system that ensures the hose cannot come into contact with any moving part and does not kink the hose in any way.

they "have experience in that sort of thing"

In reality it'll just be another excuse they'll use to hassle you
