The reason it's early is traffic clive, if you want to join the cruise when the traffic starts to build up it's your choice!

Yes I assumed that was the case. Might have to take the saturday evening off work & get some extra sleep.

weak, i'm up between 6 and 7am everyday on weekends, which is a sleep in usually for me, i'm up at 5am during the week to go for a jog before work.

Traffic will kill the cruise, especially since idiots driving 20k's below the limit

What does it matter? If you can make it, there is no reason not to go.

How about an early start again, say 8am, then Donna Buang road via Fernsaw to Marysville. Decent morning tea break in Marysville before tackling the Reefton Road back to Warburton for lunch. Then disperse from there. That should be about 3 hours of driving with a good rest break in the middle.

Donna Buang then Reefton to Warburton 130km, 2 hours 3 mins.

We turn right just before Warburton, take C505 back up to Donna Buang, and have a BBQ on the summit. Apparently there are gas barbecues there.
Route 145km, 2 hours 17 mins.
