2.5i swap to STI

Postby sinist4 » Thu Aug 26, 2010 10:58 pm

Hey guys

Im just chucking this out there to get some feedback on this.

I am selling my car atm, however im thinking if i dont get the price im after im gonna have to do something with my 2.5i my07
Now first question is will a Ej257 long block bolt up to the chassis ? (not sure if it is the same as the GT)
Second question, will a my07 sti gear box bolt up to this chassis and what kinda of hardware would be required to i need to have to make it all work.

The reason im asking this is because to get the car i want i will have to spend around 35k ? on top of the price on my 2.5i. And im thinking if i am getting a stock car (evo x gsr) which is really not much better than a lib in terms on interior and the exterior. Would i rather spend that 35k and get a full worked liberty instead.

Any feedback would be great! :)

Ps: I know some people out there will tell me to just buy a STI and GT but at this stage its new or the STI build.

cheers guys

Have you considered how hard it will be ten to resell you transformed 2.5.
You will still have crap interior.
2.5 body looks crap in somparison to the GT let alone Sti.

Surely you can sell your 07 for a fair bit if done privately

As Hamish mentioned, you'll have an extremely difficult time selling off a heavily modified 2.5i. Naw man. Just sell it for what you can and use the money to invest in something better. You should start building on a stronger and better performing foundation.

2.5 body looks crap compared to GT? don't all lib bodies generally look the same?

Thanks for the input,
The thing is after this i never thought about reselling it, and when i do it will be worth like 5k anyway so not a biggie there.
As for the interior i was thinking along the lines of bride seats and sti cluster and a fully sic sound system haha
Yeah the body i would have kept pretty much the same except the front bar and sti lip or something like that. No bonnet scoop cause id rather not lol

But yeah as i said i just wanted input from all the wise people on the forums, so i can make a informed decision. :)

Cheers guys.

EVO X GSR will smash a standard Liberty in terms of overall performance & handling... & if you want to mod, there's soooo much available & generally speaking you get better overall results.

Have to admit the Liberty does have a much nicer interior (Bar the seats) & externally, well that just comes down to personal preference. IMHO, the Liberty is a much more subtle car, whereas the EVO X GSR is a boy racer type car.

pity the evo doesn't have the build quality…..

Back on the topic, all things should bolt together in terms of chassis and mounting points, the other issue you need to consider is all the wiring and ecu's which are needed for the engine and tranny.

Of course it's cheaper and easier to just buy a gt, but if you have the right resources (Phat gt) and parts (phat gt again), this could be a fun and rewarding project, not to mention it would be absolute weapon if phat gt has his way with it....

Will im kinda looking at it for this point of view, instead of spending money to buy a stock GT and then having to upgrade the motor/internals/turbo/injectors etc etc. I'll just skip that step of buying the GT and go straight for the good stuff ?

And yes the eVo is nice, although you have the MR which has the leather and sat nav. I think the gsr will be like a lancer es with racaro's ?:)

thanx for input guys :)

Sorry I was actually refering the differences between the 2.5i and the GTB/Sti body but said GT :( , In that case theirs a big difference in the front end.
