Good Panel beaters in Melb?

Postby Kekotic » Tue Jul 27, 2010 8:24 pm

Hey guys, I went to a panel beaters today in my area and was quoted $800 to fit 3 items (2 of them to also be painted)
I know this place does a good job, but to me this seems a little over the top.

$822 to paint a tb STI replica boot spoiler and K2 Gear roof spoiler, to fit both of those (spoiler needs to be drilled in to the boot) and also to fit the ULTREX Front bar.
I tried to explain to the sales guy about the ULTREX front bar basically clipping on and only a couple of extra bits needed to be drilled, not quite sure he understood. As he was adamant the front bar had to be taken off?

Basically I have also found out that my K2 Gear roof spoiler probably won't be here in time to get this all done before the Melb cruise  and it's best to get this all done at once.
So can anyone recommend me a good place in Melb to get the 2 items painted, and maybe if even someone who fitted their own ULTREX bar would be able to help me out in installing mine as it's supposed to be fairly easy, yet we all know how my first attempt at doing something to the car went....
As for the K2 Gear spoiler I could just put that on with double sided tape. Speaking of which, I went to bunnings and Autobarn today and neither had 3M tape, just other brands.

Does this price of $822 seem terrible to anyone else or is it just me....
Surely $400-500 would be more reasonable?

Kieran,

Most of us fitted our own lips to our cars. I have both an STi one and an Ultrex one (I run the Ultrex one for daily uses and cruises in case I damage it!!). It's super easy to fit. You could do it yourself in 30mins tops.

I've used Waverley Body Repairs (Mount Waverley) for a fair few of my jobs over the years and found them to be pretty good - especially with color matching.

Cheers

I only just found out today that I have tomorrow off work. Was hoping to get it done tomorrow, but of course such short notice :(
Might have to try these stupid Phil Mundys rip off people as I'm not sure when else I will get a chance to get it all done.

Well that was....easy...

Phil Mundays booked me in for tomorrow, the guy on the phone remembered me from when I went in person to get the quote. Looks like I'll have my spoilers on tomorrow, and might even be able to take the K2 gear one home after it's been painted to let it set so I don't have to wait until Monday.
Unfortunately it's probably going to set me back $500 to get this stuff done (install front lip and boot lip + paint k2 gear spoiler), but better than doing the front lip install myself and buggering it up!

Hey Kieran,

Munday's did the drivers side of my car, and you can't pick it... their workmanship is spot on...
