& even then, it's still in the eye of the beholder... Just because you may think the quad tips & STI lip do wonders for the car (Which they do in reality

This took him a while as the other HD holdens were purchased and then done up by enthusaists with their own take / mods on them which he personally didnt want.
For example take a look at this search http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/res ... ome&Nne=15 and see the varying price differences (dads is in original condition with less kms and cost less... then most of them)
Its to me what you want to pay for the car at the end of the day its your decision to part with your hard earned cash or to part with your pride and joy... Each to their own i say... My 2c

I don't 100% agree with that, When I was selling the sportivo I had people calling up asking if it was modded, they specifically wanted one that was NOT modded, I am a bit the same, I don't want a car that someone put go fast bits on, all it implies is they wanted to go fast the car will be thrashed.
Not saying a car HAS been thrashed but that is the perception a lot of people have if it is modded.
Of course it is dependant on the bits, a CAI and CES will give that impression but a wind deflector wouldn't :p

When did this suddenly become news? It has been the way for decades - enthusiastic owners have always wanted a lot more for their vehicle than hopeful buyers have wanted to have to pay for them.BUDDAH wrote:I have noticed on this and other car forums that car owners wishing to sell their car have totally unrealistic idea of the value of their car
A few things that aren't taken into consideration is the moment you drive out the show room you loose 10%+ in dealer delivery, stamp duty, and other government charges, that may apply and another 10% + in depreciation depending on make and model so their is automatically around 25% loss.
Easy maths $60 000 - 25% = $45000 and even more $$$ in the first year depending on Km and condition. The more expensive the car is in the first place the bigger the loss as luxury tax needs to be taken into consideration. In my last 9 car purchases I have only once been lucky to purchase a car that has held its original value 3 years later due to the very low number that were available at the time of purchase this car took 14 months to be delivered.
To get a better idea of you cars value have a look at REDBOOK and dismiss the highest price

You could have easily ranted on about people giving ridiculous lowball offers for vehicles for sale.
