If money continues to not be a problem then you probably will :) you'll realise that the only safe place to push your car hard is on the track. The final stage is when you start stripping off all the bling bits you added, to save weight :P

The shop I had my bike serviced at went through a couple of periods (during the time I had it) where they used different oils. Mobil 1 was the most expensive of the lot but it was the best and worth the difference in cost. Yes, I realise that motorcycle oils are different to oils meant for car engines

I just got my oil changed to 5W30. Is it just placebo, or does the car rev more freely with thinner oil?

It does rev more freely with thinner oil. Plus your old oil was over 8 months old so it was probably turned to crap as well.

That likely just means it was holding particles in suspension, as it is supposed to do.

There's a good chance your oil was well past it, but the colour is not a good indication of that.

Sorry to dig up an old thread...

Has anyone done an oil analysis on the Motul 300v 5w30 after 6 months of use?

I've been using this oil in my GT for about 3 yrs now and have no complaints (except price), just want to see if its worth it and if the oil performs well for a 6 month period.

Also, does anyone know if there's a place in Perth/ WA that can do an used oil analysis ?

Thanks :)

Thanks for the link, will look it up.

Car is a daily driver, i average about 4500 to 5000 kms every six months and have it serviced every six months too.

So an old thread bump.

My mechanic says the 5W30 is far too thin for the dry/hot Australian conditions, and recommends I go back to 10W40 or 10W50.

Thoughts?

Have you got an oil pressure gauge?

In my NA engine even on a track day with >30degC ambient and oil at 110degC, I was still getting over 4.5bar pressure at 5,000rpm. WS Manual spec is minimum 3bar at that rpm.

So in my case 5W-30 is no problem. In a turbo car it may be more important to have a thicker oil, but rather than guessing I suggest you actually measure for yourself.
