TB STi 6MT shifter?

Postby Kekotic » Fri Aug 13, 2010 11:26 pm

Hey guys, I haven't been able to find this specific part on Japanparts and I'm trying to convert my GT.B to a TB STi so if anyone with an MY07-08 TB STi can please post a pic of what their shifter looks like that would be much appreciated.

The only 6MT shifter by STi I could find on Japanparts was this
Image

The description of it says 'Same as 2006 JDM Limited spec C RA-R. Black DURACON'
But personally I don't quite like the look of it, although it is pretty hard to tell from the angle of that picture.

Also there is this 6MT panel and I'm just wondering if it is part of the TB STi. I'll probably buy it anyway (Damn you PHAT GT!!!!) just to see what it looks like sitting behind the gear boot.

Thanks.

Kieran.

I have the 5MT version. Interestingly Japanparts showed it as having an STI emblem on the shifter and a separate shift pattern badge, but I kept looking for the other design and I ended up buying:

http://www.rhdjapan.com/sti-shift-knob- ... 39?nflag=1

The shape is AWESOME and fits my hand perfectly for every shift. Plus the material doesn't get hot or cold.

6MT version here:

If you like the shape but don't like the material/finish then you can get the STI v2 leather/alloy knob:

thanks Jim.
I actually don't like the pics of that STi version. If someone can post a pic they take themselves of the STi version from a proper 07-09 STi that might give me a better indication, but otherwise I think I'll just buy a new GT.B Shifter as it's only $50 from Tyrepower and mine currently has a little bit of wear on it. Actually I might buy the STi one and the GT.B one just in case :P
Also why didn't you add me to MSN Jim :angry2:

The ones on ebay are clearly fakes with a crappy badge on top, I looked at those a month ago.

The one in that pic from carsales looks exactly the same as mine by the way, I can't even see an STi logo on it. Although I'm sure it's there somewhere.

Kieran,

The TB Sti model has a short shifter which allows shorter throws between gear changes.
But the actual gear knob is the same as the GT-B models.
The Sti does not have any stickers on the knob.
All the others u c on other sites are aftermarket upgrades.
I'm sure one of the boys with a Sti model will be able to confirm this.

Thanks mate.

I thought there was maybe a different shift knob because the TyrePower guys are selling the shift knob for GT.B's from the ones they converted to STi's.

They are all almost all fakes. Easy way to tell is by looking at the finish of the Duracon material. The genuine ones are glossy smooth and the fake ones are a matt, machined type of finish.

The white ones are all 100% fake STI never made that colour. The black ones are 99% fake. I bought one at first not knowing so and it was all convincing, down to the packaging, owners instructions etc. The thing was, it was a 6MT knob but with 5MT badge on top and 6MT part #. Clearly fake lol.

Is that chrome part plastic or actual metal? It's plastic on the GT.B

I don't have an STI but from memory I thought the only difference from standard GTB was red stitching in the leather, as are the seats. That's on an '07 by the way.

Well you would be an idiot to buy that.
Tyrepower that is doing the deal on all these cheap MY08 GT-B parts (tyres/rims/billies) is also selling those shifter knobs for $50 and they have probably at least 50 of them.

And Moggy you can see in LadyLibertys pic that it has an STi emblem below the gear numbers, but that's an MY08. I'm changing my car in to an STi but with a lot of JDM STi gear also that never came on the Liberty, like STi side sills and foot pedals etc.
