Patrick managed it with his Connies. Guards didn't look all that good though....

There are probably lots of places you could squeeze them, doesn't make it a good idea.

Who's Patrick? Photo evidence of Connies not looking good?

22.7mm, which is the difference from my current setup, is really not much...

I was looking at getting Rota G-Force in an 18 x 9 +30 which is an even more aggressive fitment(another 12-13mm further out), and there are quite a few Legacy's running around with them on in the US...

Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere here at all: if the tyre is hanging out past the wheel arches then it's instant defect. The more it hangs out the more obvious it is and more likely to get you pulled over.

Thanks for that mate...

I was trying to avoid major guard work to fit them, my calculations led me to believe that a full guard roll and some negative camber combined with a slightly "stretched" tyre shoul fit them in!? Without have to "flare" the guards anyway... :?:

Jimmy,

From what I've been reading (I've been wanting to upgrade to a more aggressive rim set up too), that most people run a 225 tyre + guard rolling and a small amount of pulling + camber.

I think the common camber specs were at least -2degrees on front and probably the same at the back. Also, with that set up, i hear at full lock the tyre will rub on the inner wheel liner AND/OR the front bumper mounting clip.

I dunno if this helps but mine is +45, 225/35/19, guards rolled, and at full lock I usually get a bit of noise (not from the guards, but inner wheel liner)

Another +1 for inner guard rubbing on full lock.

Also worth noting that I have caster adjustment bushings (running +6.23 degree caster) but tried to lessen it out with less camber.

It's time for an alignment, anyway...

I love that look but not so much on the liberty! Also the problem with the liberty is the rear track is 10mm smaller than the front track so the front wheels stick out 5mm each side more than the rear and personally I think that makes the whole thing look worse. I was planning to run 8" on the front and 8.5" on the back but from what I understand that ruins your centre diff, even having different offsets have an effect. My 225 dunlops on the front of my 8" +45 rim is close to the coilover to start with and having a previous accident to a deflated tyre catching the inside of my suspension its not something I am keen to push the limits on.

Although with camber tops and this sort of tyre you could do some really nice stuff!

Taken from http://www.caradvice.com.au/77998/cambe ... the-wheel/

Ride quality deteriorates as the car is mostly running on one side-wall, but mostly the inside of your tyres ends up worn out very quickly, leading to a less-than-legal situation for your tread.

Enter inventor John Scott and his (American-spelled) CamberTire. According to The New York Times, Scott has developed a tyre which has its top angled downwards, effectively tipping the tyre in while the bottom of the tyre remains flat, thereby using negative camber to maintain a full contact patch with the road.

Image

The Times’ post mentions that the tyre’s loss of grip at the upper limits was much more progressive than a conventional tyre, making it more predictable and controllable. Three degree of negative camber must be dialled into the car the tyres are to be fitted to. Scott’s new CamberTire has also passed testing for a V rating (240km/h).
