August sounds good if it's time enough to get a really good cruise going.
Black spur sounds the go as well!

Anyone willing to commit to a scout run or whatever it is? I would happily come along to help for that but seeing as I haven't done one before probably better for someone with more experience (in driving as well as I'm only 21) to be the main person doing it.

Also August means I might have most of my mods done too :P

Aug 1, 22, and 29 are out for me. (You can see why at http://www.mgcc.com.au/competition/index.shtml ;) )
That leaves Aug-8 and Aug-15 on my wish list.

i've never done the spur, and its a bit out for me to scout it out.

but seeing as its so popular i guess there are a few people here who can advise?

i think mid august would be great, depends on if i break something at the snow end of this month

Here's the last run we did, out through Reefton and back through the Black Spur.
Reefton Run

Has anyone ever done a run through Fernshaw?

You need to make an early start to avoid traffic on the Black Spur.

Yep done the Fernshaw one at night, it's a pretty good drive especially the climb up (I hit a wombat going down)

I'd agree in any of those routes that early morning is preferred, 8am or so, then stop somewhere for lunch and light cruise home with a full belly.

Sounds good teK / Ric... And agree on the early start.

Scout run is basically driving the route and creating cruise notes - picking up the distances, key turns, issues, meeting points, contact numbers etc. Doesn't have to be done, but given that is usually a varied mix of drivers (some skilled and want spirited driving, others bring family and want to cruise) thus inevitably the group gets broken up / lost / etc. This is when the notes really help.

Cheers

Gents,

I am in for the cruise or meet. Heads off next week, so will not be cruising too spiritedly until all are nicely bedded in. Early is good, but beware the snow season and the early morning traffic (toward Marysville) and return traffic (toward Heasville). If we stick to the route shown on the Fernwood cruise, we shouold miss most of the traffic, unless Donna Buang is covered. Can you get thru to Fernwood without snow chains when their is snow on Donna Buang?

These routes (Reefton and Fernwood) may be best left to the late spring and summer months. What about the Kinglake route we did last year? No risk of snow and some good twisty bits!

Ouch Snow? Never driven in the snow before. And I doubt many people own snow chains here.
19th of August should be okay though shouldn't it, getting closer to autumn, shouldn't be too chilly.

As a few other people have mentioned it doesn't have to be a cruise, could just be a meet up at something like Jells park on a weekend with nice weather. Hell I'm just eager to look at peoples cars and see the mods they have done so I can get some info from them about how to go about my own car.
But I'm still eager for a cruise, provided it's not a once off thing for this year and people can't be bothered doing a summer one.
Summer drives are so much better!

Hey Kieran,

You need not look much past Steve's (Sentinel) car to get a good idea of mod heaven! :)

Kind Regards,

Mark.
