I have to say, the Hi-Techs on Noozl's 2.5i did sound rather nice Sound even better on the 3RB

The Hi-Techs will give you a nicer note when compared to the STI quads... Volume is about the same. Advantage of the STI quads is that they'll probably be a selling point when it comes time to sell (I know you mentioned you were concerned about this point) where as the Hi-Techs will obviously appeal to the younger tuner market.

Considering both options aren't cheap, maybe it's best to see what comes up on the 2nd hand market & let your wallet make the choice...?

Yeh if i got STIs I would have to go second hand, I thought the Hi-Techs were around $500???

I would only really wanna spend about $600 inc fitting max, just for tips

Yeah Hi-techs are rather pricey.

I'd have to disagree with you though swingn about the volume of STI's vs Hi-Techs. My cousin and myself both have 2.5i libs and he's got hi-techs while i have STi's. The STi's are quite a bit softer than the Hi-Techs imo, and I dare say they have even less drone (they are OEM after all). I really find it hard to put into words, but as you said, the hi-techs will give u a real .. 'aftermarket' note while the STi's are a lot more, sedate? civilised? oh lord i don't know. lol forget i said anything?

I'm happy with the sound of mine, and it only cost $50 incl the hotdog.

if you just want nice tips after that, allow for around $90-100 a tip

STI Quads are 3700 brand new lol... I must admit though, from those videos I do like the sound of the HiTechs the most...

Think I might just post my interest in the WTB section, while im waiting Ill save more for a new set =[

STI - It will give you slightly louder exhaust noise, but performance will remain the same because the muffler layout is almost identical to the stock mufflers. This is good if you're after the quad tip look as a pre-owned set will yield very good value.

Phat - While a great muffler, it was primarily designed for the turbo. It will give a louder than stock exhaust note while accelerating but is quiet during idel and cruising. However I probably wouldn't recommend this for a 2.5 N/A though. While it will give a bit better performance, the increase will be in the high end (on the motorway) while the low end (street) may suffer due to the pipe diameter.

HiTech - Very expensive when new (although still cheaper than a new set of STI) as it retails for $1,300. However if you kiss Lambro's ass or are connected, you can get it as cheap as $900. The small pipe diameter will help give a slight power & response increase for the N/A without sacrificing low end power. To date, some people (not all) are still experiencing bumper bar burns from the exhaust tips.

Custom - Probably the best value for new mufflers. Unfortunately you take the risk of not being happy with the exhaust note because you can never know how it will turn out unless that same muffler was fitted to a Liberty previously and you heard how it sounds. However you can specify the pipe size to control power increase/loss and noise. You can also pick the type of tips you want.

not to be confused with the actual muffler.


if you just want a bit of sound and quads, just go to an exhaust shop and ask to fit two twin tips and change your mufflers. you'll have change from $500

Surely if I take in the videos of the N/As and say "Make my car sound like this", they will do that, and if it comes out the other end not sounding like the videos, I can say, whats the go there, fix stuff lol...

Any reccomendations? Also, what u mean by pick type of tips, what they are made from, or quad, single, cannon etc? I want quads, but I got no idea what they should be made from lol, i want the stealth look haha?
