Lowering springs for Gen3

Why ruin stock springs when for not much more or the same price you can get lowered springs with a higher spring rate to compensate for the reduced travel.

I heard a rumour that we can't lower anymore than 35mm (gen III) is that fact or fiction?

Without trying to come across too technical (isn't that right Tek? ) the theory is you want to keep the control arms horizontal when the car is level. When you lower it too much the arms start to point upwards which puts undue pressure on all the other suspension components over time.

But, I had a Gen 3 previously and lowered it 60mm in the front and 40 mm in the back wit Kmacs on standard shocks. The ride was er, ah, um... lets just say firm.

I'm not aware of any physical constraints in the Gen III preventing from lowering that much, but you're pretty much correct in that anything lower than 30mm or so is cosmetic lowering and is going to be detrimental to handling. Without buying many other parts roll centre and alignment geometry is going to be screwed and in any case there will be more stress on CV joints as well.

I could pretty much get it up any drives or speedbumps.
Some required some angling but you get used to it. You also get used to scraping sounds.
With 16 inch wheels the sill was at 100mm from the ground so it was just on legal. Put a heap of passengers in and that is a different story!!

I don't have any pics of that car. i didn't even own a camera until i bought my current car. I am annoyed about that.

It had a canon exhaust (which is still in the shed somewhere), 2x 12 inch subs in the boot, wrx wheels, really low and P plates, but the cops never looked at me for some reason. I guess cops in Victoria only target crummydores and skylines!
