AVN 6000 to Mcintosh Amp?edit**CAN BE DONE!**

Hi guys,

Looking at one of these units. I am curious if anyone out there had installed one themselves and if so, have intergrated it to the Mcintosh amp?

I was originally thinking of a simple single din setup (alpine or such), and the audio installer said that they could use a 'converter' to make the signal useable for the Mcintosh amp.

Is this true? And if so, does the same apply for the Eclipse AVN 6000?

do a search mate... it is a bit hard to integrate with the smack-n-toss set up as it uses balanced inputs.
however it is not impossible.

best bet is to ditch the OEM amp and upgrade.

Yeah mate have been searching for about a month!! But I have an oppurtunity to buy one soon. I probably will anyway, but as the question asked, has anyone actually done it?
I know (from searching) that people have opted for a replacement amp, BUT has anyone used the Mac amp?

Also I am aware of the balanced inputs issue, hence the LOC, but as also asked,is this a valid solution to the Mac amp integration?

there are some people out there i believe that have managed to solder on some RCAs onto the DIN cable, but this is a pretty tough process.

The DIN cable used is not a standard cable either so subaru have made it as hard as possible to integrate into the mac system. you might find that it is not financially viable to go this route... Will leave it to see if anyone that has done it replies.

Been covered many times... in my own experience (and others) it's cheaper and more versatile to get an aftermarket amp than to do custom wiring to the Mcintosh.

Problem is, that link is to an item i cant find, so no answer if that is a solution or not.

However the consistant problem with all the threads I find is that they all end with NO ANSWER. Hence why I posted the question after much searching.

I didn't get a definitive answer from forums, however the DIN cable is a unique cable and rare to find, and from what I understand, you can't order it from anywhere. To modify the DIN cable would be expensive as it requires custom splicing. Not to mention you lose the control of having a dedicated sub channel, as the amplifier works out the sub output internally.

In the end I took out the Mcintosh, and bought an Alpine PDX-5 5-channel amp and mounted it under the seat. Three pairs of RCAs and I now have 4x 84WRMS to the speakers, and 1x 374WRMS to the sub as an added bonus I no longer have the annoying fan from under the passenger seat, and I gain a fancy blue LED

Thanks for that. I will look into the better amp option, however as I will be spending way more than I wanted to for the HU, it would be nice for a cheaper solution for the time being.

Nice work on the AVN6000. I miss mine, the AVN726EA is nowhere near as nice as the AVN6000 IMO.

Quick word of advice mate, with anything car audio save $$$ until your in a position to be able to do it all once and do it right. Not saying go out and buy the best gear available, but get yourself a decent system that will last you a while and can be expanded on in the future if you ever feel the need.

And trust me, once you dabble in car audio mods you will want to upgrade at some stage.

Ok, idea for now is this:

Install the HU and run the wiring for the speakers to the amp location. I think the HU has both high and lo outputs (can someone confirm this?)
If the Mcintosh amp is not an issue, than wire into that and see if Im the first to do so. The audio installer knows what the Mc amp is and is confident that the converter will solve the balance signal issue there. (I assume the factory din19 plug will be modified to do this)

If the amp is not an option, wire the high outputs directly to the speakers at the location under the passengers seat.

The idea is that when I want to install a better amp, that all the wires required to do this, will still be located under the passengers seat.

Has anyone wired the AVN 6000 directly to the factory speakers (ie no amp)? I will continue searching for this, but any help is bery much appreciated.

Also I cannot seem to find exactly what outputs the AVN6000 has, even on thier website. Does anyone know?

I have a wiring diagram for the speakers under the passenger seat, that'll be the easiest thing to do.

Fairly sure the AV6000 has 50W mosfet output.
