Accident in Moorabin

Hi all,

I just got an accident in Chesterville, Moorabbin. I try to get some lunch there, since I just change my oil and change brake pads.

I search for park, and someone wants to go out. He went out, I give him more space to reverse, so I backed out a bit more. But when I backed a bit more, he just push the gas and slam to my car.

WTF? He came out, he mad at me, said that need more room, then you fu**ing stupid etc, then he mad at me, because he can't see me, he's using 4x4 car, lift up.

At last he got my contact details and I got his contact details, but he gave me wrong number. Shi*!

I got his home address and rego car number. SRU587. Toyota 4x4, forgot the model, old model.

My car bonnet broke, headlamps, bumper, and left fender.

If he didn't call me within a week, I will report to police and I don't have any complete insurance (3rd party only). My insurance company told me to wait for a letter of something, then sent to the guy with a quote from a repair workshop.

Bad day, but even I don't get him, I just change the head lights. Since hood just a bit broke and fender, bumper also. Just headlight crack and some broke into pieces.

That sucks! But i suggest you report it to the police within 24 hours, not after a week. I'm fairly certain there is a legal requirement to report within 24 hours if the damage is greater than $1,000 - which I would say is a fair chance with 2 cars with damage.

Okay, I'll wait within 24 hours. But my insurance company said to wait for that letter, then get quote from repairers, then if he doesn't respond, then I can tell to legal entities or police.

So how is it gonna be?

Yes, just a bit, rear bumper right hand side. Only his bumper up a bit and a chrome thing. But already ask my insurance company, it's his fault, since he reverse and didn't see me.

Hi Naldo,

This accident is definitely his fault, since you were stationary and he drove into you. This is probably for next time but you should view his drivers license and write down those details, which are more useful than having rego of the car.

You should lodge a claim with your insurer regardless and let them deal with the hassle of chasing up the other car's insurance company. Good luck with it.

That does suck! I had a car accident last week as well, lady changed lanes without looking and collected my rear door.

Fortunately for me she reported to her insurance company immediately and my car is now at the smash repairs. Picking it up next Tuesday.

^ what Jimboy said. You should notify them and tell them it's a not-at-fault incident; if worst case scenario you can't contact him, you don't have to repair it under insurance. Give them as much information as you can (rego, name, phone number etc) and let the insurance company chase it up.

My insurance company said to me that I need to contact him, and ask for his insurance company. My insurance company doesn't want to take care of the case, maybe because I just use 3rd party insurance.

But I don't care, what Hotwire said is right. Tomorrow morning, no info or call, I will report to police, since I got his rego number.

it's better to report to the police straight away, that way you go on THEIR records as saying you were in this incident. that way after they can back track and see that you reported it when they start doing all the insurance stuff if this guy wants to play hardball.

If you have concerns, I'd be getting in contact with the Police straight away...

Although you've come out on the bad end in terms of damage, at least your car is drivable etc... But I'd still want to be getting it fixed up sooner rather then later, even if you had to pay the excess.

I only have 3rd party insurance. So if I'm in trouble, well, my choice only change the front head lights. The others, just use touch up paint.

Better to report now or later? Since he still not call me yet and i can't contact them?

Sorry to hear about the accident man! Hopefully it can all be sorted out.

However being witnessed or involved in several accidents with family and friends, I think the new rule is unless there's an injury or major damage to property, the police don't want to know about it and won't file a report. I mean you can certainly try to contact the police, but I think all they will tell you is to contact your insurance company. Unless of course he fled the scene or has left you with inaccurate details. The fact that his contact number is not correct is a bit fishy.

In any case, regardless who's at fault, contact your insurance company straight away. Because it's in the hands of the insurance companies now. It's up to you to explain and draw out the accident to your insurance company, so that they can put in a claim with the party's insurance company. I don't think you get involved or have contact with the other insurance company at all.

EDIT - Opps, just read you only have 3rd party? You're driving around in a Liberty with only 3rd party? Come on! Surely the car's worth more than a few thousand? Hmm, not really sure what to do in that case? I guess you have to contact his insurance company directly?

Already went to police station.

What the police said to me: "Under any circumstances, we doesn't involved in any damage or accidents. Since this is a private matter, so Victoria Police doesn't involved. Right now you just need to wait and believe his information given is right. We can't give any information for the car, since it is a private matter."

When I heard this, I just hope that, that guy will call me and responsible to my car. If not, well, next week will order new front left head lights.

Someone knows where's the place to get cheap headlights? I don't want to fix the bonnet and front fender, not really important, just a scratch paint, and dents. Bumper same thing. Can get a touch up.

I wouldn't be buying anything for the car until you have sorted out what is going on with the insurance. You won't be guaranteed reimbursement of your expenses. The headlight should be OK for now just seal it up with tape and plastic. You may wish to do the same with the fender and corner of the bonnet (seal it with tape and plastic) so that corrosion doesn't set in.
