DAB In-Car DIY Install

Postby ngn33r » Sun Apr 25, 2010 1:10 pm

Hey All,

Thought I'd do some show n tell, with a DAB unit i dis assembled and re designed in a jiffy box.

I bought a DAB unit.

then decided i only need to control 3 variables.
1. (on/off)
2. radio station
3. Information (strength of reception, name of song playing, ect)

Installed it into a nice tight jiffy box which is just the perfect size to sit the designated pocket.

here some pics...

Digital Audio Broadcast - digital radio for the initiated ;)

Very clean install. Me likes, though I never listen to radio anyway. iPod classic with 50gb of songs keeps me happy :P

Neat install. I'm in the same boat, and have NFI what DAB is lol. I think of myself as quite up to date with technology but some things I just don't keep up with.

Do you have the same problem that I do now, of where to store sunglasses? :D

thanks for the comments,

i had the ipod 160gb setup through a neat "tuneflex" product which charges the ipod, and also plugs through 3.5mm all through a nice cig lighter dock.
was good, but music gets old, radio songs keep changing :P
also new mixes, n beats coming out on novanation :)
sold for me ;)

depending on your taste of music i guess...but i find particular channels to be really enjoyable to listen to.
apparently, there are more n more channels coming out...kinda like the digital tv i guess.

no commercials, no crackling on the am stations which are now on DAB broadcast.

also, great music playing 24/7

i keep the sunnies in the glove box ;)
plenty of rooom there.... :P

The ultimate solution is to buy an MY10 which has a sunnies holder in the overhead map light/sunroof controls location ;)

Hi there,

Just wondering, your standard HU, can it be using the Ipod connector? Maybe AUX IN? Need an info, since I want to plug my ipod in my car.

Cheers

Naldo - he has an MY07 or later model, which had aux in. We (04-06) missed out on that feature

dont think they all had AUX standard. It was optional extra, otherwise my car would already have the damn 3.5mm jack in the centre console :(

I didn't mean as standard, but at least it was an option. We didn't even get the option
