Interesting that you mention AVO... I've just been looking at their kit which advertises itself as letting you keep the spotlights and also the bumper beam? --> http://www.avoturbo.com/avoshop/product ... ts_id=1272

Its also quite reasonably priced!

There is an article on the AVO FMIC install onto a 08 t/b STI Wagon. They used a high performance (but smaller in size) battery to allow for the piping to fit.

They also used a different STI bar to allow more air through to it so I am not sure if AVO themselves could keep the foglights or not, lol.

There is a write up on the LGT forums from the same kit being fitted to a pre-facelift model keeping the original bumper beam and lights though... --> http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.p ... 99715.html

Also, not that fussed about changing the battery if required.

There is also the Perrin kit, although thats not available through a local supplier that I know of? --> http://www.perrinperformance.com/produc ... 9&model=10

There is also a member on the LGT forums(US) who has designed and is producing a FMIC kit called "RacerX". It looks to be a pretty good layout kit, and the guys on there rave about it!... its also rather cheap at $750US + shipping!
Apparently allows you to keep everything including the stock airbox and BOV! --> http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.p ... l?t=131072

P.S - Still waiting to hear back from PHAT!

Heheh... I see your thread, you're going to be removing the TMIC anyway! Just get him to make one up on your car, and then he can say, do doubles and put one in the letterbox to WA!! I'd be pretty massively grateful! :air_kiss:

EOI - FMIC buy.....

Expensive GB but it sounds like it's either that or just go to your local exhaust shop and get them to make something up for you.

Yeah... Not quite getting the feedback/suggestions I was hoping for!

I'm not trying to build the fastest car in the world... Just want something that will be reliable and efficient enough to cool 20 pound worth of TD06 delivered air!

Otherwise, I'm going to try and find a TMIC that will do a decent job...

Yeah, i am getting sick of the heatsoak with the stock top mount, and it makes me wonder how much different an AVO or Hypeflow etc really is.

Front mount is the winner, but i guess you get what you pay for...

INTERCOOLERS - Brands/Recommendations etc

Postby Jimmy S » Mon Apr 19, 2010 3:50 pm

Yeah... I don't really worry too much about the heatsoak factor, as its only when you're sitting for a while, and just means it will be a bit sluggish off the line, which it by no means is now anyway!...

Its more about trying to get the most out of the turbo upgrade for me... I'll be happy as long as I can pull 300.1Hp which "should' be fairly easy with the GTPS03TM, as long as I can push 17psi+ through it!

I don't mind spending the $$s if it is going to be a worthwhile excercise, but it doesn't seem like there is a good quality kit available to suit our cars? and if you are going to go custom, its just a whole other ballgame!...

I'm leaning more and more towards getting the turbo on with a larger TMIC and seeing how happy that makes me for a while...?

So... lets expand the topic to "INTERCOOLERS" in general... Who's is the "best" TMIC?

I have used an AVO TMIC for the last 12 months(btw its for sale cheap too...hint hint    ), and recently swtiched back to an oem one, i instantly felt a difference in response.

I currently have a perrin tmic on order, due to arrive in next day or so.

Perrin is still the biggest tmic on the market and alot cheaper then both avo and hyper flow.
