what's needed?

Postby sundayDriver » Sun Apr 11, 2010 9:26 pm

out of interest, has any one rebuilt the 07 2.5T (EJ257 single scroll) to rev higher than 6000rpm?

what would be needed? who could do it?

I think you'll find the engine is an EJ255, the 257 is the US sti engine.

Any competent engine builder can make a 2.5 rev to 8000 RPM.
You could do it at a minimum with pistons, rods and maybe some cams.

To make it worthwhile you'll also need headers, a worthwhile turbo, a full exhaust, a fuel system to cope, and maybe a little bit of work on the heads themselves.

Why do you want to rev higher? Also where do you live?

EJ255, that's what I meant, just having a bad day (week).

I'm in canberra. just working out if it's worth doing. engine seems to be good all the way up to 6000, seems to me (right now) if the internals could handle going higher, the turbo would keep up (stock turbo right now).

maybe it's better to keep the turbo inside it's optimum range.

......thanks.

The VF46 is operating beyond its optimal range at 15psi and 5000rpm.

There is absolutely no point lifting the rev limit on an engine using that turbo, unless your goal is to destroy pistons.

I know of a 2.5L engine combo going in Canberra that made 405KW atw at ESP. If you have the cash. Get that!

It would be very good. However on reflection the bottom end is worth $10k, the peripherals would come up to another $5k.
