Postby 06 blitzen » Wed Mar 17, 2010 11:13 am

im looking to install a new radio and was looking at putting in something that is ipod compatible, and ideally can even support satnav.
was thinking something along the lines of an http://www.alpine.com.au/products/produ ... odelID=369
or even http://www.pioneer.com.au/en/Products/C ... Audio.aspx

is there anything out there that you guys recommend, or do you have some feedback on the options that are out there.

ideally i was looking at something that has the screen out as standard, but i know there are option where its a single din unit with a pop out screen....what do you guys recommend

is there any that have a compatible satnav inbuilt?

ok, well this is a popular thread!

ive narrowed my search down to a few models
for the nav / dvd dual use system we have:
Clarion - nx509a
Pioneer - avic f910bt (there is also the f10bt but its well over 2k retail)
Kenwood - dnx7360btnav

there are also makes like the eclipse, but i doubt i could justify their expense

I bought the eclipse avn4400 blitzen. It can be had for about $1300 without any haggling at the moment (tangcla managed to the get the model up for $1200 so he must have good contacts!). Has the removable tom tom GPS, supports iphone/ipod (including video), usb, and has bluetooth built in to the tom tom system. The place I went to threw in the car kit for the second car as well. Does everything I need - no problems syncing with the iphone including contacts and recent calls, and you can dial from the touch screen unit, as well as read your text messages (or have them read out to you).

I've heard that some of the earlier pioneer models had some issues with bugs but not sure about the model that you've listed there.

The alpine units can work out to be more expensive then the eclipse once you've factored in the cost of bluetooth and GPS. Depends what budget you're looking at.

i havnt really set a budget as yet, still sort of feeling it all out.
i am looking at the nav unit option as a preference but if it means im paying a premium at a sacrifice to sound and vision quality ill drop it back to a dvd only unit and go and buy a tom tom or navman.

i think i might need to head down to a car audio specialist and see what they think.

I'm thinkin bout gettin one of these next:

http://www.alpine.com.au/showItem.php?item_id=35

Simply because I never use discs anymore - my ipod is now a permanent part of my car. Access to all music and videos on my ipod - which means my entire music collection :D

Plus it has built in bluetooth, which is simply AMAZING quality. That and the fact that I love the sound quality of Alpine. The other brands all seem like a step down for me now
