Hey Chris, they're quite nice. If you want richer colours just increase the saturation slightly, but apart from that they look quite good!

Mate, your photos are already pretty good!!!

I am only an amature too, so i fix some of them in Nikkons Capture NX2, mainly adjusting white balance, exposuse, saturation and contrast if they need it, (most of mine still need need at least one of these!!!), i use photoshop for sharpening, and have also been known to use it for removing things that i reckon can riun a good photo!! An example of this would be my red liberty photo taken at homebush, i think if you go back through this thread you will see what i mean.

IMHO i rekon the idea is to never use P.S or anything, but as i am also a learner these programs can be very handy to me as it can make a shit photo pretty damn good, i just need to learn what was wrong with the photo and what i did to it in NX2 and use the knowledge i learn to take a better photo next time.

Cheers Matt.

Expose for the dark spot, and let the blown highlights fall where they did. No added light source, just a dark corner of the workshop.

Got a Canon 500D the other day, anyway i have set the camera to save image files to RAW and JPEG's. And JPEG's look sh!t house in comparison. Is their any way of keeping the trust depth of the photo in RAW file but an easier to view and use format to use them for backgrounds etc, as RAW files can only be viewed in certain programs???

Also have read that each time you edit the photos in JPEG format they lose clarity each time you edit the files. Anyway of editing the images without reducing the clarity or adding noise?

Cheers Hamish

Whatever software you are using should allow you to adjust how much compression is used whenever the photo is saved.
Set it to "no compression" while editing (which will give you much larger files), only save the file with compression when you want to produce the final image.
Alternatively, see what other "lossless" formats your program lets you save file in. TIFF and BMP are both lossless formats.

JPG's out of camera or jpg's that you have converted from the RAW files on your computer

setting the camera to hold RAW + JPGS. the JPGS seem to be noticeably worse then the raw files.
