MY10 McIntosh entertainment system question & mods.

Postby subarugt » Thu Feb 11, 2010 7:38 pm

I noticed there are few problem with the McIntosh entertainment system.

The maps are quite simple I think they are using where is it maps.
It doesn't display information about the car.
here are some mods I want to have for the McIntosh entertainment system i wonder if it's possible.

Keep dvd playing even when the car is moving ( right now as soon as you move your car the screen will change back to map so you can only hear sound from the dvd but no images)

The where isit map doesn't alert you when there is a speed camera or school zone. is it possible to update the software so it will tell you if there is school zone or speed camera and when you are over the speed limit? (my nokia n97 does all these I hope the gt's buildin touch screen can do it too so that I don't have to keep using my phone since my phone's screen is too small.)

why do you want to watch a DVD when driving? One of the more dangerous ways to drive a car IMO

I was thinking just to play some MTV music while driving or let my girlfriend to watch dvds while we are doing long trips. but I think you are right. let's leave that part.

how about the map upgrades so it will warm me whenever I am close to a camera or speeding?

Sorry I updated the location. forgot to put it in before.

phat are you able to do the software update too for the gps? to make it warn you when you go over speed limit or close to a speed camera or in a school zone during school hrs.

I have a n97 that does all that and I can connect it to the GPS screen so I can use the n97 on the gps screen but it's very annoying if i have to connect the phone to the gps everytime I drive.

Just a guess but it is quite likely finding the speed input to the DVD unit. You short/open circuit those wires and it will think you are stationary all the time.

Still baffles me why you would want something as distracting as a DVD playing while you are driving though *shrug*

Have you guys seen the screens in the new Range rover sports, its has an interesting feature which allows the passenger to watch a DVD while the drive can only view the sat nav, all on the same screen.
Not a soobi anymore, but still slightly dirty

My other half informs me that some upcoming aftermarket GPS units will have a similar feature.

Yep +1 but if you crash well good luck explaining why the wire was not connected.
