What is the mileage on your car?

I am not convinced the radiator/AC fan could die at such an age unless the mileage was extremely high. Perhaps get a second opinion on the fans (auto electrician) before you shell out $1K for them; if you are proficient you can perform a basic test on the fans by hooking them directly up to the battery to see if they operate. It could just be the relay/transistor which is not turning them on and is much cheaper to replace.

It's checked out all Jim, parallel to the jumper battery, to the main car battery, won't work at all.

Then it only run when the mechanics knock out on the fan(on the back part of the fan, I don't know what it is).

My milage only 67,000 kilos and I don't know why it is happening to my car.

The mechanics also told me that my car is the first car that needs to replace its fan for this model because other customers never got this problem at all.

Do you know a good auto electrician? Because if I need to spend extra money and the result is that I need a new fan, then it costs more.

For the time being, I won't go anywhere. I'm afraid I will blow up my engine and this is a serious matter.

Thanks Jim

Something just doesn't seem right with your car, especially when it came with WRX wheels and the owner didn't disclose it to you. Did you get a full background check through REVS and get the car inspected by RACV or similar before you bought it?

I hope you don't keep finding more and more surprises about it. As for an auto electrician sorry I have never had to use one before (touch wood); perhaps you could ring the RACV and ask them to recommend one in your area that is accredited by them.

Have you thought about getting a second hand fan(s), perhaps ring around at some places in your area that specialise in radiators. Also Shops that repair electric motors you could ask them about having your fans reconditioned/motors rewound in any case I am sure it would be a damn lot cheaper than $1K, and you would end up with fans that are as good or better than brand new. In the latter case you just have to be prepared to wait a few days without your driveable while they rebuild your fans (not that you want to drive it now anyway).

Before I bought it, I check through Repco vehicle inspection. They said the car good but only bushes, clock, brake pads & machining. That's all.

Actually this car already hand over for 4 times and now I'm the 5th owner. I checked through the Vicroads VIP package, and because I had a wrong understanding on that paper, when I changed my name, the vicroads guy told me that this car has been in accident. It says it changed all the parts, like all doors and wheels, and it was reported last year. But when it is on vehicle inspection, no one can't tell that car has been in accident, no chassis wreck or something, engine was fine and for 1 month I never got a fan problem(maybe just the AC fan that don't work on idle).

Now I already order the new fan, I won't use the car until I change the fan. Well, if I repair those fan, maybe it only lasts for 6 months-1 year(i suppose) and after that time I need to change the new one. Because I need to use this car for 3 years, so I'm better to fix all of this problems now.

At that time, I didn't use the RACV vehicle inspection is because they are full and the seller was at the Dandenong. But the great thing is that he can get an RWC certificate since got many problems with this car. That RWC tester just dodgy. I should take another RWC test before I bought it because when I first came to that guy, he already hand over the RWC certificate.

But I already bought the car and nothing I can do about it.

Thanks

shame to hear that you've got so many problems with your ride :(

my '05 built MY06 has about 85k on the clock now and I'm still on orig pads, second set of tires and second exhaust heat sheild (oh.. and need a third windscreen).

Just got it back from the repairers after a bingle (shunted into another vehicle) but I'm really happy with it. properly looked after and regularly serviced (I'm due for one) it runs like a dream.

Hey will,

Yeah, but my car now run very well and it's good to run on V-Power Shell gas. Got the torque and more fuel efficient.

Btw, anyone can recommend an exhaust shop in melbourne? I like to increase a bit of the power and the sound, so that the sound of Boxer engine pops out. Not too expensive please.

Thanks

Daalder Exhausts in Box Hill is good, but no matter what exhaust you get you won't hear the boxer sound, since we have equal length headers. You will have to buy the unequal length headers or have ones made up, but they will end up giving you a reduction in power.

I would suggest for an unmodified engine all you really need is a pair of nice straightthrough mufflers such as the HiTech.

Oh, well, keep the original exhaust then. I won't change it, since it can be less powerful.

Got any idea how to increase a bit of the car torque?

Thanks Jim & all

It's going to be hard to get more torque with a retune or major work (like go to ej20t or ej25t - ie, add a turbo). I've been doing a bit of reading and going through posts on here and there aren't many options. the NA 2.5 would need a fair bit of work to take a turbo or super, so you may as well just replace the entire lot :)

but OTOH, if you find a way, please share! :D

I think the easiest part to increase torque and power is to change the camshaft.

I like to ask weld camshaft in Melbourne(CMIIW), if they make a camshaft for SubLib

Thanks

I just got back from Pedders shop today, to just check the suspension and etc. But I need to wait for my front bushes.

I got another problem actually, my front left CV Joint was twist, now the grease or oil was leaking and got into my left hand side wheels.

I don't know why is this happening, but the others was fine. Never do drift, or do burnouts or etc. Drive normally but sometimes make a turn a bit fast(rarely).

I will fix it tomorrow and costs, not yet announce.

bad luck naldo. IT sounds like the previous owner either abused the vehicle in a massive way or didn't keep up the maintenance.

It's hard to get the 2.5NA to drift or do burnouts (I know, I've tried) on asphalt without being on full lock or *really* throwing it around.

I'd love to have a bash in the BULLIT though...

I don't know about it mate. Well the CV joints just known yesterday, before it never like that(when changing timing belt etc). I don't know why.

It always maintained when I look at the subaru service sticker(front windscreen) and the log book. But I don't know whether the previous owner service on "real" subaru dealer or not. But the verdict, he not maintain it.

Well, now I need to wait for Pedders bushes and after that I fix the CV joints. For now, I just need to wait... And I like to change the rear spring for higher(if I can), and harder spring, because my tyres always touch to rear fender if in full passenger.

Hi Andrew,

Now all fine to my car, only there is a sound on my dashboard, like cable or something, but I didn't bother.

Btw, i just replied on your thread about my problem.

Maybe you need to change thermostat, oil coolant but also check when on idle, is it working or not in long time. if it's still stay/didn't move, then it's broke i guess(in my case was like that).

And why did u change springs? Lowering springs? Don't forget to change shock.

Cheers
