Oh great! This makes sense now that I look at the picture of the JUN fly in detail it sure looks a lot simpler without duel mass springs and what not!
This is what we need, one solid(no duel mass madness) big fat fly
Thanks for pointing this out to me, I miss understood the information.

:D
PHAT GT wrote:yes the Jun fly wheel is solid and will work fine

but they are made to order at this stage with about a 2 month wait after you place the order

Michael

Thanks to you too PHAT GT for confirming this for me and letting me know about the waiting period as I was under the impression that the only thing you had to wait for was the delivery (10-15 days).

I'm sure I can drive carefully enough to make the clutch last the 2 month waiting period though

PS

Phat,

Have you looked at importing these, is this why you know about the waiting time? If this is the case can you get them at a better price? I would be looking at about $680 including delivery to my door(Melbourne).

Maybe a group buy might find us a better price?

Cheers again everyone,

Monty.

Also guys,

While we are on the topic what do you suggest I do for a clutch plate? I was thinking Exedy OEM replacement but I would like something with a little more bite and durability then that.(keeping in mind I don't want to break my box, but I would like to find something in the middle of the two)

Thanks again.

Ok update for you all, I have ordered a JUN flywheel and a Exedy (Japan) organic clutch kit :D If all goes to plan I should have those parts in just under a month according to the local importer guy I used

I'll let you all know how it goes.

Hey Monty, im up for a clutch and flywheel soon too :( In regards to your Exedy clutch kit that you've ordered, is that clutch plate the oem plate? I too am looking for one with a little more bite. I called Exedy and they're not sure if they make a stage 1 heavy duty for that kit and want me to call back in a couple of days. Also, what's the fly and clutch kit costing u if you don't mind me asking? PM if it's a secret

Those who have converted their DMF to a solid may be able to help with this one. Are there any driveline vibration issues after converting to a solid? I've been told there has been but how do the other libs with solid flywheels get around this?
PS sorry for the hijak Monty :)

To those looking for a clutch with a little more 'bite', be aware that the standard clutch has something like 2200lbs of clamping force so its not exactly lacking. Std WRX clutches have about 1500lbs clamping force for comparison.

Hi Jtek,

You can read about the clutch plate I have ordered in the following link: http://www.exedy.com.au/HeavyDutyClutchKit.aspx It is the next level up from the OEM clutch, I ordered it from Japan because the only thing that Exedy Australia have is the OEM plate and this has been confirmed by multiple calls to them

It ended up being a total of $1440 ( $650 for the JUN flywheel and $790 for the Exedy Japan organic clutch kit) I Know I could have got a better price for these items elsewhere but I went for the first price I was given as I was stressing so much and want to get this done asap before my clutch completely packs it in!

Cheers,

Monty.

Hey Monty look forward to hearing of the results for the conversion. Although I will be using different parts (Exedy solid flywheel) I am also doing the DMF>Solid conversion when my clutch is up for renewal. I don't give a crap about increased NVH to be honest unless it ends up sounding like a Bdouble :P

Cheers

Hi teK,

I probably would have gone for an Exedy solid fywheel too so that everything was the one brand but they don't make them for the 2.0 GT. Do they make it for your car? I'll be sure to let you all know when I get the parts in :D

Hi Jtek,

If you are going to be getting it done under warranty how could you get after market parts and what solid flywheel would you use? If you are going after market, why not upgrade the plate from OEM to organic? :D It will last longer and have a bit more bite to it

Cheers guys,

Yeah Exedy make a solid flywheel for the 2.5i :). The whole kit including flywheel, clutch and pressure plate + TO bearing is only $815.00!

hey Monty, i bought my car from a proton dealership and are goin to use aftermarket parts anyway due to the insane subaru prices. So all i can do is make a preference as to what i want fitted. I can get an Exedy solid flywheel and clutch kit (oem replacement organic disc) for our libertys for about $1200. The part number is not listed on the exedy site :? AFAIK our clutch disc is organic as it is definitely not cerametallic.
Cheers

Thats a nice price!

I'm looking forward to getting it all sorted, my clutch is getting worse every day :(

Ah ok, thats nice that you can do that and get the aftermarket parts :) I have called Exedy multiple times with many different answers in regards to the flywheel that they are meant to have... with the last call I made to them the rep I was talking to confirmed with the Exedy engineers that they don't make a solid flywheel for the 2.0 GT's :? So AFAIK they don't offer the solid fly for our cars. If you can get one though that would be very nice :) and I would be very jealous!

Cheers,

Monty.

I guess it all depends on who you ask and if they really understand what you want. I have the part number for the kit and flywheel if your purchase (god forbid) decides to not follow through. So atm im just twiddling my thumbs waiting to get my car back, would be a top birthday present to get it back tommorow. i highly doubt it tho *sigh* :|
I hope you hang out on your current clutch long enough to receive your replacement - no riding or dropping that b*tch
Cheers

This would be correct to my understanding also. haha

The difference between the sports HD organic kit( what I have ordered) and the OEM kit is the clamping force that the cover has and there is also some difference in the actual organic plate too but I'm no expert on this, all I know is that the Sports HD organic kit is stronger! :D

Yeah all I got from them was mixed messages! :x I hope you get your car back sooner rather then later, it sucks not having your own car!
Happy birthday for tomorrow then mate, it would be a nice present

Yeah I really have to take it easy on the clutch ATM!

Cheers again,

Monty
