I know Mark(CRUSIN) done his stock GEN4 grill and has since brought a new one. Maybe you could ask him if he wants to sell the first one he meshed. Just an idea

I was looking at doing the same thing to mine but I think the main problem is the hood latch. It appears to stick out on mine and theres a notch in the back of the grill that it slots into. Im not sure if yours is the same but you might wanna chack that. Im thinking if I can get a spare stock grill for mine it wouldnt be too hard to mod to a mesh one, but id have to either cut down the latch, or bend it out of the way. Ill probably look into it when I have some more spare time.

Gen4 one...

I just scored a free Gen4 Outback grille and Im doing a complete DIY on the making it into a mesh one. This will be as involved as the Gen2 series 2 one as it will need filling in areas so fibreglass and filler. Then i'll sell it.

Im interested in doing this aswell (Gen 3)
But the only thing it the structural beam sort of thing that runs vertically through the middle of the grill
Is that a huge problem if its removed?

No. All standard Gen grilles have the centre "beam". Doesnt affect the grille once removed as the glued in mesh provides all the vertical strength it needs.
