performance chips

Postby 06 blitzen » Tue Dec 29, 2009 11:44 am

ive been reading through west minst's thread about custom tuning of the cars ecu and whilst ive spent most of it looking at pretty pictures and cool little lines, trying to understand what is going on i can understand that tuning a cars ecu can have some great effects on the cars performance (not always reflected with huge power gains but in driveability, fuel consumption etc).

reading through some car mags at work i can see that there are a few flash type systems and afterarket chips available ranging massively in price and claiming all sorts of figures and increases.
whilst im seriously considering purchasing the services of west minst's expertise (is that a word? i cant spell for s*#t) i was hoping someone could enlighten me to the world of chip tuning and what is available out there.

Until recently the only way to tune a 3.0RB was by way of fitting a piggy back computer like a Haltech Interceptor which allowed only timing and fuel map changes in our cars. I should also mention the V or Vin Tune done by Docklands Subaru which apparently is no more. As nobody has been able to view a V-tune I can't comment as to what parameters were altered in Vin's tune.

Due to the efforts of some (me) various ADM 3.0RB roms were submitted to the Administrators at Romraider to have a definition written so our factory ecu's can be fully tuned including AVCS (variable valve timing), DBW (drive by wire), fuel and of course timing so a proper tune can be developed not a half arsed tune done by altering the signal received by the factory ecu by a piggy back. (Unichip/Haltech)

I am still working on the tune for my car with Edward in Barbados. We have been testing AVCS again today.

Hope this helps,

David.
