Side Pillar Gauges (Gen 3)

Postby jacobraftery » Sun Dec 20, 2009 9:38 pm

Hey Everyone,

Im looking into getting some gauges mounted on the drivers side pillar of my Gen 3... Ive done some quick searches and I have found some information which labels them as illegal if they extend above the factory height of the dash. First off, is this true (Im in Queensland if that makes any difference) Secondly, Has anyone done it?
And third, its allegedly for protection for yourself in the event of an accident... My point is that, if you have an accident, and you move THAT far out of your seat that you hit your head on the gauges.. your head is either going through the windscreen.. or through the side pillar... Some cheap Chinese plastic parts arent going to be the sum of your problems.

Would like to see some pictures if anyone has tried this modification, even in a gen 4.
And maybe a location to buy them from?

Any information is greatly appreciated...
Happy Holidays

imho i wouldnt get gauges in my gen3 seeing that by ur description you are driving an RX which is what i also own.. i see the fact of owning more gauges on a non turbo vehicle is pretty pointless if u ask me.. and they also look tacky

The RWC requirement is not only in the interests of protecting your face in the case of an impact, but also to reduce impairment of vision as well.

I would rather hit my head on a soft interior trim than onto a gauge. Also the A pillars are big enough as they are without having gauges adding to their bulk, or with the bright display glaring my vision.

Notwithstanding, they are also asking to be pulled over by police since they are very visible to people outside the car.

As for gauges on an NA car, I am considering at least an oil pressure but possibly also an oil temp gauge to keep an eye on the engine whilst on the track.

They are technically illegal... But I do know it varies from state to state.

Even if they aren't illegal in QLD, I wouldn't take the risk, especially if you've got a series of other mods which would justify the pillar mount gauges.

Each to their own, he's not asking if gauges are rice, but whether on the pillar is legal or not.

Did you try clicking the link?
You can only get them mail order from the manufacturer, they are not available in retail outlets yet.
