A good article on why you should and shouldn't install s/s brake lines:

My primary concern is that I do NOT want the back to out-brake the front when I am on the track. The front A1RM pads are reportedly very robust but on stock rotors there is still a chance they will fade out at Sandown.
I have DBA4000 slotted and Hawk Ceramic pads on the front of mine with stock pads and rotors on the back. Can't remember any moments of instability associated with brakes.

Not really, I don't track the car so I highly doubt I'd be putting that sort of strain on my braking performance.

It's like a guy on another forum I'm on, asking what the torque value was for the oil sump plug - sure there's the 'right' answer, but how necessary is it in real world?

Jim,
I had brake fade issues with my 3RB the first time I took it to Sandown. I was using motul rbf600 brake fluid, Ferodo DS2500 pads upfront, standard rear pads & standard rotors FRT & RR. The brake fade was caused by the fronts doing too much work as the friction level between front to rear was too great.

My best friend is a brake engineer and he advised me to update to a higher friction rear pad. I installed Formula Ferodo 2000 and took the 3RB to Sandown. Fitting the higher friction rear pads made a massive difference. I had no brake fade at all. I'v done 4 sandown trackdays with the new setup and I'm happy.

I've since fitted S/S braided lines all round & DBA4000 non slotted rotors upfront but haven't been back to sandown. Will be doing more track day's next year :D

Thanks Gino + Tony, that's exactly the info I was looking for :). It's reassuring to know that the stock rotors did well with uprated pads and good fluid.

I'm quite impressed that your pads lasted 4 Sandown meets! I'll also be using either the Motul RBF600 or an equivalent from Lucas since they are cheaper. If the specs are the same it probably all comes from the one manufacturer anyway.

I'll fit the A1RM on the front and HPX on the rear to get a similar balance to what you set up on yours.

What tyres did you run at Sandown?

Guys IMO, you can have the best brakes money can buy and still manage to suffer from brake fade, warping etc etc, when comes to the track it depends on the driving style and the driver's ability to understand the limits of their car.

I have seen stock as a rock falcons, Avalon's, commodores, 3series bmw's (my list can go on for days) on a track doing braking tests and these cars do not have any issues, on the flip side I have seen performance brakes packages from ap racing, wilwood, brembo, PBR being cooked after a few laps due to the driver not being able to judge braking points and entry speed into corners.

This also relates to those that drive hard on the road…….. No point getting race/track spec pads and rotors and driving hard, it will just lead to glazing will results in less bite and will shorten the life of your brakes.

RE050a frst time out and Pzero Rosso since then.. I got myself a set of RE55s semi slick tyres on my OE wheels which I will use for the track in 2010.

Well said Tony :good:

Luckily I'll have access to a trainer who should hopefully give me some good pointers whilst I'm out there.

I may have asked this before, but is that your engine bay?
