Pairing a key to the car

How do I pair my key to my car? I tried my spare key and it doesn't unlock the doors.

Umm that isn't a good sign.. maybe they gave you the wrong spare key hahaah.. does it unlock the central locking??

haha it used to work. The key doesn't unlock the doors but I can use it to drive (i.e. the immobiliser is the same)

hmm that's quite strange? I rekon that's a manufacture issue?? should work, as mine does???

nfi what I did to it, to make it hate me.

You mean pushing the button, or inserting it into the doorlock?
Might just be a flat battery if something had been pressing on the button.

Pushing the buttons to unlock. I can use it as a manual key still

Checked the voltage of the battery, it's just a bit under 3V.

You need to check it while the button is pressed.

i bought my lib GT a few weeks ago and the spare key i was given was doing the same thing. I have the battery in it replaced and works fine now.

+1. Then I found out how insecure the factory remote central locking can be, so I disconnected it altogether and installed aftermarket

yea tell me about it. THE DAY I picked the car up after buying it and went to a mates after to have a few drinks and show him the car and went back outside to relise the doors automaticly look them selfs and ended up locking my key and spare key inside the car.


ONLY 4 HOURS after buying the car and already on the phone to RACV to get them to open it. I felt like such a tool. It was the first time i have ever locked my keys in my car and just had to do it the same day. and to make it worse I have insurance with RACV but hadnt paid for road side assist. So had to pay 300 for them to sign me up for road side assist and them 2 hours later they finaly got there to unlock my car.


I want to upgrade the system so that I can start the car from the remote. But i heard from a mate that in Victoria that its Illegal to install a remote start onto a car. Is this true or can I install it without worring about cops trying to screw me over?

Actually I was talking more about the factory keyless entry in the earlier models not having code hopping and susceptible to code scanners. Is the auto-lock feature programmable on the factory system? I can't remember now since I have worked with many different keyless entry systems.

Also how did RACV open the doors? Jimmy down the door glass won't work since our doors don't have locking rods (this is much more secure). Did they do the trick where they pull the glass back on the driver's door and then poke at the unlock rocker switch?

The only time my car ever locks itself, is if I unlock it, and then do not open any doors within 30 seconds. I don't see how you could lock the keys inside unless yours does it differently.

+1 Auto lock only works when i unlock it and dont open a door!

sorry man youd be wrong about my car. might be different on yours. I unlocked the car. Opened the drivers door. sat down and put my keys in the cupholder without thinking. then grabbed my bag off the passanger seat and poped the boot and jumped out of the car to put the bag in the boot. and as i was walking back up to the drivers door the car locked. RACV wedged out the drivers side rear window with a plastic chock. Then used a long steel rod bent into a long hook and just fideld around till he unlocked the door buy using it to push on the door lock on the interior of the car. He didnt use a slim jim. only took like 30seconds to get the door open. i felt so cumb
