Diagnostic Mode.. How??

Postby vaccine » Mon Nov 30, 2009 1:31 pm

We tried to download the ROM off 2 different 2005 3RB's on the weekend. No luck.
Latest EcuFlash 1.41 with a 1.3 and a 2.0 Tatrix Cable. No luck.

How do you get the GenIV's into test mode??? :x
We connected the 2 green test connectors together (passenger footwell next to ecu).
turned key but the fans did click on off. No test mode.
Figured that was why ecuFlash couldn't DL the ROM.
RomRaider worked fine to log the ecu, so the cables were working fine.

Can anyone enlighten me??

On my MY04GT I just had to connect the two green test connectors behind the passenger footwell (as you described) and I got fans on/diagnostic mode. This allowed reading the ECU.

I know there is a second set which I presume are connected from factory as they obviously are on my car... not sure where they are though. Will look through the workshop manual tonight to see if I can find it...

The green connectors are above the passengers foot well towards the transmission tunnel.

I was able to download my rom before the definitions were available. I just couldn't read it. As soon as I connect my greens the fans cycle.

Like the others have said... test mode cable on the passenger side, near the ECU

However, if I remember correctly (from my MY04 GT... you need to plug in the white set under the drivers wheel to writeback/reflash... maybe in the 3.0RB require that to even get to diagnostic mode?

Well the green connectors next to the transmission tunnel are connected

fans still don't cycle and and check engine light doesn't flash

this must assume that i am not in diagnostic mode hence why i can read or write the ROM

i can log the ecu via ROM raider just can't read the ROM, this is most frustrating

Months ago I was PMing west_minist on here and I remember him saying that there are green connectors behind the kick panel on either the drivers or passengers side that need to be connected also. I can't confirm which side he was referring to as I'm not sure if cars in Barbados are LHD or RHD. I think I found mine on the drivers side and they were already connected.

P.S. Just found a PM from West_Minist. He also mentions pressing the clutch in before flashing or reading.

As Above I've heard of having to connect two sets of plugs too but haven't come across it yet. All the rexs have them under the steering column sort of so you could look there but try the kick panels as the US guys say. CAN based cars of course you don't have to bother with that stressful stuff

Its been so long if I had to press the clutch, but there are green connectors on the passenger side and also on the driver side of the kick panel by the door. You need to connect both. There usual comes not connected.

When I say both, I mean both pairs :)

Then just chose DBW in ecuflash and you are good to go. All providing that the car was not ECUTek.

Thats it. You can chose either side to left connect. I prefer the driver side.

When you get the rom, email me at socob.bb@gmail.com or west_minist@xtremeracingtuning.com

Want to compare it to the jdm. Just feel lazy to go on openecu.org

Don't worry too much about the throttle stuff.

OK have a slightly different problem here....

Have a Tactrix 1.3U cable - Cable connects fine, can use RomRaider and Learning View without issue.

However I put the car into diagnostic mode using the green connectors - get fans cycling and CEL flashing, however when I go to read the rom - nothing!

ECU flash just closes the interface
I have previously both read and written with a 1.3M cable no worries. Made sure I could read the ROM with ECUFlash after the flash too - worked fine.

However, I attached the 1.3U cable not even 24 hours later and I can't read the ROM :?

Only thing I can think of is that when in test mode, my battery volts are sitting at 11.9V with the fans cycling. Is there a lockout in the 1.3U cable if volts are below 12.0V?

Any help is appreciated as very confused

Have you updated your ecu defs in Ecuflash ?

I have heard of the 1.3 cables not working with the latest version of Ecuflash but work fine with the old version.

I've had those cables die. They will still work to log but will not flash. Hope that's not the case for you.
