WEATHER SHIELDS QUESTION??? DO THEY WORK ?

Postby memo17 » Tue Dec 01, 2009 9:51 am

Hi guys,
Just a quick question to anyone out there with some slim line weather shields on a MY 06...
Is it worth buying these, do they actually do what they are designed for and keep the water out while you can have your window open a touch? or is it purely for looks?
I was about to purchase a set, simply to have the window open an inch or two while its raining & also to keep some water out after its rained, as you would all know it gushes all over you once you take off or brake a little hard.. :angry2:
but the guy i spoke to said, i would be pretty dissapointed if thats what im getting them for... (Quiet generous of him actually) he mentioned that, because there is no door frame, it actually gets attached on the body of the car, there fore it sits a little high and doesnt do its intended purpose.
So if any one has them or had them, does it work? & should i purchase ???
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated ...

Cheers,
Mem

I have a MY04 with these on and on my (rainy) trip to the coast on the weekend I had water coming from the windscreen onto my drivers window. For the cost they don't appear to do what they are expected to.

They don't do squat from what everyone who has them tells me. For any effect you need those big taxi-style ones which look ugly.

So does that mean you still cant have window open a bit ? does the water actually drip down a few centimetres from top or straight on top of window..?
Eg: if you got your window open say 3-4 cm, does water still come through? even if it has stopped raining & you take off at lights etc...?
just want to make sure before spending over $200 on something thats not going to work!!!

I imagine the problem is not just because rain can come in on an angle due to the minimal surface area of the shield, but due to its short profile and angle, water that comes down from the roof and rainfall from above easily enters the window gap due to capillary action.

I have them on my car, if you want to have a look at it.

Weathershields on a frameless door is pointless, you can't make the shield large enough to keep water out.

It *does* help with reducing air turbulence noise when you have the window open just a crack though.

They don't work... But they look good :D

Actually, they do work if you want to gap your window very slightly (10mm ish) but if your a smoker like me, they are basically hopeless.

Truthfully, the only reason I got them was because I though they finished the car off nicely :D
