does anyone know how i could get my car lower without getting coilovers ?
i have just put king springs in it , but need it atleast 20 - 30mm lower in the front possibly more !!
but i also dont want to affect it in anyway?
any ideas?

If you don't care about ride quality or safety, you can go as low as you want by resetting or cutting the front springs to the desired ride height. Because when you go lower than 30mm and don't go coilovers, which are designed for greater than average lowerings, you're asking for premature wear of your dampers and other components. And the shorter travel of the dampers will create some interesting safety issues.

But if you care about retaining a decent ride, safe handling, etc. you should save up for coilovers if you're wanting to go that low. Just my 2 cents.

Sounds like you need a bigger subwoofer to weigh the car down some more and thus compressing the suspension.

Failing that if you lower it 30mm or more you will be riding on the bump stops which will create a potentially unsafe condition. Your call. If it has to be that low save for coilovers. Even the cheap BC coilovers would do, they are about a grand from Pedders.

The most legal (and safest) option is to have the King Springs reset to a lower height. HOWEVER the ride control from the stock dampers will be very very very bad (hope you like pogo sticks), and there is an extremely high likelihood that the springs won't stay captive (they will become dislodged if you go over a big bump which unloads the suspension, or if you jack up the car. This is unroadworthy and a means of a red (serious) defect notice.

As mentioned, if you want to go that low the only sensible way is to get coilovers and set it for the minimum legal height.

cheapest/best value for money I have found are the Pedders xtreme XA coilovers.

$1600 + about $200-$300 for fitting, installation etc.

You could get some cheap ones off ebay or something, but dont forget youll want a professional to fit them, plus the pedders ones come with a huge support network

If you wanted to spend any more that that, I got a quote on TEINs for like $3200, but even then the guy said they dont make these for my model (N/A 2008 2.5I), they only had for the 2008 GTs

What's the difference between suspension in the n/a's and the GT? I thought the only difference in fitment in Gen IV suspension was wagon spring heights (not a problem with coilovers)...

Nothing. Unless looking at the GT Spec B which obviously has the Bilsteins and slightly firmer springs (but not that much lower, if at all).

All i know is he was on the phone to them in front of me, reading out my part no's etc from under my bonnet, and they said they dont have the for the N/A model, and that I would need to go for a cheaper alternative, but cant remember the name - BS or something :S

Do people realise that when going for an aftermarket spring like kings etc, that it will flog out the struts alot quicker. Even billies this will happen to with king, happend to a friend. You are better of resetting the factory springs to the height you want or slip on them with the angle grinder.

personally coilovers are the only way to go with adjusting ride height. Not all coilovers are equal, as you need the base adjustable ones and not just spring seat adjustable. you adjust the spring seat and you adjust the shock travel. Thats why i got a nice set of Tein Flex's off IM for cheap, also means i can use my edfc to adjust the dampening. With the flex i could run probably 310-315 centre to arch and be drivable. though that put the rear control arms alittle to close to the chassis rail, let alone the inverted control arms and suspension no-no's that arrise. 340-345mm seems to be the optimum ride height for suspension geometry.

Good advice Dave. Lowering with springs only is a good, cheap option, but won't last too long.

Also another thing to consider with coilovers, is that whenever you decide to change the ride height yourself, not only had you better be damn sure you get it even, but you need to get a wheel alignment afterwards.

As the front suspension sits lower there is more static toe-in. As the rear sits lower there is more static toe-in and negative camber. Opposite obviously occurs when you raise the suspension.

Don't know if you've looked into a set of coil over's yet, but I found these on e-bay.

They seem to be a fairly cheap entry level set, whether that makes them crappy or not I don't know, but they could be worth a try.
