Thanks for that Smythie,
I bought some of the UEC this morning and was thinking of giving it a go at lunch time.
I am still a little uncertain as to where i am spraying it, in your pic it's the pipe with the big U bend in it right? Just to double check, as I am sure I don't want to be spraying it somewhere it is not meant to.
I was gonna ask at Subaru this morning, but they had no parking anywhere near them.

That's where I sprayed it in mine (the brake master cylinder vacuum hose outlet) but I'm not too sure of the effectiveness of spraying straight into that spot as I think that one cylinder is getting most of it and the others very little. I'm interested in trying the port on the other side next time. Or maybe on the driver's side if I can manage to remove the metal bung that the hose slips over which should allow me to stick the tube further up the intake manifold.

So I gave it a go at lunch, I didn't spray it into the vacuum hose near the master cylinder, as I couldn't get the bloody hose off, I found a smaller hose on the passenger side and used that.
It produced a lot less smoke than I anticipated, the car does seem to be running better than it was...less hesitation anyway, not sure about the ping though, have to try it out later.

Just as a quick note, when I called Subaru, they told me to use the one that Smythie said previously, the one infront of the master cylinder, but that was the one I couldn't get the hose off.
The one I ended up using may well be the one Smythie thought would be better, on the passenger side, a much smaller hose though.
