Changing O2 sensor, apparently ECU gets 'flashed'

Postby tangcla » Wed Sep 16, 2009 11:19 am

So apparently they change some of the parameters on the ECU after the O2 sensor is replaced, does anyone know where these parameters live, and if the ECU is flashed with OpenECU, does this affect it?

Generally speaking, when something like the O2 sensor is replaced Subaru like to reflash the ECU (Happened to me a few years ago).

Shouldn't matter if you have Open ECU or ECUtek etc etc etc... But in my case, it cleared the maps! :(

Ecutek'd ECUks can't be re-flashed by Subaru.
Subaru use their own Select tools for re-flashing - not an OpenECU product

Sorry should clarify I was in autopilot and referencing my own model - current model Ecu's (anything post Can-bus) which have been ECUtek'd are locked and can't be Subaru re-flashed without ECUtek removing the software

My last discussion with the mechanic is that only the O2 sensor operating parameters are flashed and nothing else.

Not saying your mechanic is wrong but why would it need to be given different parameters? It works with in a certain range and the ecu compensates. Also I've never heard of anyone else mentioning this flash upon 02 sensor replacement :?:

Apparently they change the operating parameters for the O2 sensor as different revisions of the O2 sensor (in particular the early ones) were calibrated for Japanese fuel.
