hehe woops.. I just recently bought a MY05 GT so just been reading around forums.. Picked up some ATF from subie dealer $97.. Is 5L enough guys?

How often do you guys change your ATF? I got a quote from a subie dealer to change the ATF and Diff(front and rear) oils for $250... bit of a rawt or what?

That sounds cheap to me.

IMO, it depends on how you use you car. Obviously if you give it the berries everytime you drive it & go to the track on a regular basis, then doing it on a more regular basis is a wise thing.

I believe Subaru have it in the service schedule every 45,000kms - Could be wrong on that one.

The OEM Subaru stuff (Transmac E) is fine... As a lot of us have a fair few mods & pushing out a wee bit more then standard, we are always on the look out for something a little better

I could be wrong, but the auto tranny sump holds like 13L doesn't it?

When you do change the fluid, make sure they give it a power flush as well

True, but if you going to change the fluid, you change the lot.

If you're going to do it, it's best to do it right IMO... Especially on something so critical.

I've been old there's not necessarily much point unless you were having issues. But I guess this is a fence sitting type of question.

I guess it depends what your doing... If fluid is now, then your obviously not going to do a power flush & replace the lot... Although you need to make sure that your topping it up with the same / correct fluid - Remember, Subaru used to use a product called Transmac J, which was used in my car... But then they replaced it with Transmac E... Very similar specification, but it's not recommended that they are mixed.

If you are due for replacement, make sure you do it correctly - IE Power flush & replace all the fluid (Approx 13L).

E more then likely... Pretty sure J went out of production about 18 months ago.

I didn't do the flush cos I couldn't afford it atm 5L was enough for a basic change...so far so good.. gear changes feels a little smoother than b4, esp getting out of 1st and 2nd

Not too sure whether J or E was sold... the dealer guy there couldn't tell me lol , the part number on the back of the bottle is SAS1032

Dude, you should always make sure you've been supplied with the correct product... People make mistakes all the time, it's only human.

So far it looks like you're in the clear, but if you had "J" & added "E", then that's not a good thing... Further more, I hope they didn't give you the fluid for the N/A model (4sp auto).

Well that's always a good sign I hope you checked that before you used it

Subaru are only human & have been none to make mistakes.

Also, I still think it is wise for anyone wanting to do an auto fluid change / top up, to confirm exactly what fluid is running in there car. As I have said before, Transmac J & Transmac E are very similar in their composition, however they are still different products & therefore is unwise to mix.

When dealing with something as critical as your tranny or engine, I don't feel it is worth the risk to rush something through or to save a few bucks.

My 2 cents anyway
