'06 mcintosh problem

Postby Woodduck » Wed Nov 18, 2009 1:54 pm

So recently its been getting to temps upto 46-47 (my car even said 50 one day) which as you all know is very hot. The other day i had my car serviced at subaru and they left my car for the entire afternoon in their car park with has no shade cloth or trees....so smack bang in the middle of the heat. When i got in my CD player kept saying "focas error" and kept spitting out the discs. After about 4 hours it started working again but only on disc 6, and then eventually all the discs worked. I didnt relate this to the heat at the time, but the other day it was again left in direct sun for most of the day and when i got in the SAME thing happened and wouldnt work. Yesterday, it did the same thing after being in the sun but it would read disc number 6, none of the rest. Any ideas whats happening? Does it sound like the CD player problem, or do you think the sun actually damaged the CDs?

There seems to be quite a few other threads on this:

So I think its a McIntosh Problem, not a CD problem....

Anyone else have the issue where after playing a CD for about an hour, the volume drops and goes back to normal?

I suspect the amp may be the culprit but who knows?!?

What volume were you playing at?
Posisbly the amp is going into a limiting mode if it gets too hot.

Volume is around 28 - 30 with the bass set at about 4, treble at 3 and no balance neutral across the front / rear / LHS and RHS

I have a feeling it is a limiting mode, I don't tend to use the aircon so maybe overall it is getting too hot in the car.

Slide the passenger seat all the way forward, and carefully put your hand on top of the amp to check.
There is a cooling fan inside it, which runs all the time.
If you can't hear the fan running when the key is on ACC (even with the head unit is switched off), then it may be jammed or broken.
