Sorry SpecB, thats incorrect. It would be considered as a AT FAULT claim as there is no other party to recover the cost from. This will in turn affect your NCB ratings for the next yearly premium.
That is the definition from Allianz who I sell insurance premiums for daily.
Phil.
Phil,
I think Allianz might have a different policy than AAMI then. I have had 2 claims that I couldn't identify who did the damage. Both years my rating stayed the same and the cost of my insurance went down. The damage done was over $1500 on both occasions. Why would AAMI and Allianz differ so much in this regard? (I have never paid for rating protection)
I had my car broken into on top of that and nothing stolen. It was definitely cheaper to just pay for the window.
I don't have any mods as it's a work car but I shop on insurance each year. I must say Alianz comes no where near on price so I have never checked the conditions. They must pay their reps more![]()

AAMI must have change their ways. I had a 96 Camry which was broken into when it was 11 months old. When I got it back, air was leaking in through the door seal and the mirror was hanging off the door. I had to threaten them with legal action twice to get it fixed. They even asked me if I was sure that air hadn't been leaking there before the accident. I had it back to their assessment centre 3 times (50 km trip each way) before they finally agreed to re-repair it. I told them there was no way it was going back to the Dodgy Brothers repairers to whom they'd originally sent it. Actually that's the worst of their "valet" service - you don't even know where your car is and who's working on it. In any case, they chose the new repairer and told me when and where to front up. I dropped the car off at the allocated time. I had a phone call from the panel beater within 20 mins saying that AAMI wouldn't allow them to start work on it until it was assessed by them again and that that wouldn't be for 3 days.
On the other hand, I reversed into a pole striking the right hand front guard of my Nissan Patrol. When I rang Allianz, they took my details. The first question after that was, "Have you chosen a repairer?" All I needed was the quote from one repairer. It was ready at the allocated time. The work done was perfect. In fact, they even replace a plastic moulding on the front of the sidestep. You couldn't tell that the old one was damaged. It was even ordered in (on backorder). They could so easily have just decided not to bother with it.
I made the decision after my experience with AAMI that the price isn't the only important consideration when deciding upon a policy.
