i completely understand where you are coming from smythie, but i doubt any H6's are getting tuned on the edge as it were. i also believe that vin's tunes are very safe, which makes it easy to copy/paste too different model H6's. For the $350 tunes that are provided i doubt they are very custom if at all. A bit like the tuned by STi model they realeased, more agressive tunebut still safe as houses and same tune on every vehicle. what you might have overlooked is that in america and europe there are companies that make ALOT of stage tunes avaliable for download for $$$, and not just for subarus. Whether they be an EPROM chip to fit onto the ecu motherboard, or a computer file to be flashed onto the ecu. They are a generalised tune that can be put on to the relavent vehicles and thats it. They are not a hand-grenade tune and dont nuke motors, are extremely safe and thats why they are a stage 1 tune say.

I also just went over the all the 3RB factory tunes that RomRaider has de-compiled and made def's for.. seems up until 07 they all shared the same fuel map, avcs.
DBW throttle maps are very different on the 07 from others with twice the map size but what looks like a massive torque hole in the middle of it and looks very dohey up top????
the fuel maps are all identical betweent the 04-07 3RB's and 07 looks to be more efficient and lean on under 20% throttle changes with tip-in.

i would love to see one of vin tunes to see what changes have been made. last 2 subarus i have tuned my self with great results and no nuked motors. both were 210kw+ so i have a pretty good idea on whats going on. the beauty about doing the DIY is you know what has been done. You know why its been done and how, and its also all a part of the learning curve. Most of my friends tune their own cars, for this exact reason. But alwasy begin with baby steps and ask bucket loads of questions.

Hey Vaccine, I have a V-Tune on my 3.0R 5AT, MY05, as done by Vin Maccaro at Docklands, and would be happy to help out with your inquisitiveness. I had my tune done with 98RON fuel and Hitech mufflers, along with a hi flow panel filter.

I have an ECUDataScan thingy and if I can save any files that are useful, more than happy to send them to you.

Alternatively, I have started the reading phase of my learning with regard to RomRaider and ECUFlash but have not got a dedicated Notebook PC or the Tactrix Cable to undertake the download of my ROM.

If any one is in Melbourne with the right gear, I will voluteer my car for a download.

Kind Regards,

Mark.

Vaccine,

PM sent. And I am sure that all 3.0R lovers will continue to monitor this thread for the results of Vaccine's analysis.

For me, I am interested in reducing the lag in the DBW throttle response. It is more annoying than turbo lag!

Kind Regards,

Mark.

Just an update on STI's 'booking acceptances', I rang back and explained what kind of car I have, advised of my knowledge of other cars being vtuned, etc and was advised that theyre not taking bookings at the moment. They put my name on a list for when their legal issues are resolved and they said they'll call me.

go figure... doesnt bother me though... i cant really afford a trip to Melbourne right now so I'm happy to defer to next year

Awesome timing, I'm just getting to the point now where some of the lustre of the engine is wearing off and a tune just might get some sparkle back.

Will definitely keep an eye on this.
Now that I'm in North America, I'm greatly concerned about raised pick-up trucks and owners of wedge shaped vehicles. Seriously, not only do you have to be concerned about one hitting you in an accident, they stand a good chance of driving over you at the same time!

Yes. It's done by a guy called "Vin" down at STI Docklands. That's where the "V" comes from.
