Custom Plates 'GTLIBERTY'

Postby gtliberty05 » Fri Oct 30, 2009 12:05 am

Hi to you all from Perth! I am new to this forum and would like some advice in regards to personal plates. My wife is trading her GT Liberty on another subi and no longer needs the 'GTLIBERTY' number plates. What sort of $$ would be a fair asking price for these custom plates? Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but I have heard various values ranging from next to nothing to the down right extravagant! Feedback appreciated! Cheers, Stew.

WA (and some other states) are a lot more liberated when it comes to custom plates than NSW and Qld for instance

Personally, I think anything more than $200-300 for the rights to a plate is a ripoff. People may ask $1k plus, but why the hell would anyone in their right mind pay that!! I suggest just ask for $300 and be happy with down to $150. Afterall, anyone can just go buy a different combination of letters which is close

Being an owner of custom plates it would be completely dependent on who was buying them and how much they wanted them?

May I suggest you contact the dealer principals at the various Subaru dealerships and get an expression of interest from them.

I "heard" that one of the Sti's from Melville Subaru sold to someone who paid well over $5000 to get the dealer principal's WRX Sti plates that were on his car.

When the FREO plates sold FREO 001 went for $10,000 and FREO - 555 went for $2000 (to a 2 door Sti owner).

I hope that helps. My gut reaction is say $3k-$5k from a Subaru dealer.

For those that want to know , WA has a massive collection of cutomised plates. See http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au/licensing/customplates/1390.asp

LOL forget about getting thousands for personalised plates...thats the crack pipe talking.

We get heaps of members posting their private plates up for sale at Perth-WRX, pretty much every configuration of WRX, Impreza, etc..WRXXX, REXX, Impresive, Impresher, etc etc and they just dont sell for big dollars anymore.

I own GTB STI and I paid the going rate of near on $400 from memory and thats what I would sell them for if I ever did.

Dave - I was at the FREO auction when those plates went, and I agree, "crack pipe" numbers. However, it is proof that high pricing comes with originality, rarity and the appropriate buyer. FREO 001 was a battle between the then mayor and the owner of Sealanes. Claiming them as a charity donation at the FREO auction (50% went to someone) also helped. That's why 'perhaps' a plate like GTLIBERTY might command a higher price to someone who wants it (looks good on a demo MY10 GT). However, WA liberal custom plate laws have cheapened the market. Mi5plellss just don't cut it for a high price..

All said and done, your experience is much more recent so, $400 odd it is. I have personally never paid more than $250 for a plate.

FREO is short for Fremantle and is "another" of the corporate/shire plates available in WA.

There's hundreds of plate designs in WA bar even the custom plate series available in squillions of colours.

Thanks heaps for the feedback guys, much appreciated! I think we paid around $400 for them 5 years ago, but I guess a few extra $$ wouldn't go astray either!! Might try the dealers and see if they are interested, thanks GTB Liberty!

Not sure $50 will cut it dwane!!!

Cheers again!

PPQ once a year have an auction at the brissie motorshow i believe they auction them on commission and also sell thier rare plates that they have never put on the market
I remember about two years ago they launched thier 7 digit plates and auctioned the 8888888 plate which sold for tens of thousands
