then delete resonator in centre pipe and get yourself a set of free flowing mufflers like the phats or similar. Way cheaper and will achieve the same outcome...more noise.

What does this mean and what negative effects will it have on the running of the vehicle?

no negative effects on the running of the vehicle, just removal of restrictions in the exhaust which will make it louder from the rear.
I've gone with just the PHAT mufflers but haven't removed the centre resonator and this has resulted in increased noise, but not that loud
which is exactly what i want. How much you do will depend on how much noise you want. In the end, you won't get much of an increase in power in the end.

Yeh not too worried about power, its a 2.5i after all, and its quicker than my 05 impreza so im happy...

Although I agree thats a lot to spend on a 2.5i, there are some over exaggerations in price, as well as parts that can be carried over to a new car if he chooses:

Stage 1 – Lowering – Springs - $500 Fair Price
Stage 2 – Roll Guards - $100 Only 2 guards but may not need to be done
Stage 3 – Rims/Tyres - $3000 Can be carried to a GT Later
Stage 4 – Brake Callipers Paint - $100 DIY for $30 I would say
Stage 5 – STI Front Lip - $700 Again, carry over or sell separate
Stage 6 – Number Plates - $420 yeah, sunk money
Stage 7 – HID Kit - $300 Just get blue vision globes!!, 1/3 the cost
Stage 8 – Pedal Kit - $250 can carry over
Stage 9 – Exhaust - $2000 waste of $$ for little gain. Get a set of mufflers only that can be carried over

My list is simple:

20% Tint all round $350
Open source Tune *Free with help from Tuner in the US *

So yeah, funds spent will be limited over the next 18 months of ownership, at which point car will become 100% wifes car so not looking to do *too* much to it.

Blue vision globes with parkers are actually $60 so 1/5th the cost. Plus the fact that HID retrofitted to a non HID lens is illegal.

There are plenty of other commonplace mods which are also illegal

I would agree that lots of mods are illegal, however IMHO signal and forward lighting is not something to be played around with. It is a fact that HID retrofits (without changing the lens) causes uneven light distribution and improperly focused lighting. I.e. could lead to an accident at nighttime if you don't see something that you would have with stock lighting.

Iv done it and never noticed it not dispersing light correctly. From the driver POV its the same as stock but brighter/better light. Thats said im only running 4300K HIDs.

i think tek is referring to the fitment of HID bulbs into a halogen reflector housing (which is illegal) as opposed to a projector lamp which directs the light more focused and does not blind on-coming traffic as much as it would in a reflector housing. also to make it legal one would need headlight washers.

Fitment into reflector housings are the absolute worst as there is no control of glare directly into the eyes of incoming traffic. Projector housings prevent the glare because by design they have a sharp vertical cutoff on the beam. That is not to say that the light distribution below the cutoff point is correct though, and when you replace a halogen with a HID the light becomes very bright in the foreground and in the centre of the beam, but it quickly drops off at the sides.

Most people don't notice because they are more concerned with the perception of bright headlights (bright foreground, bright straight ahead), rather than look at how evenly the light is spread out or how wide the light beam is.

Is it that bad? in NSW, you only need to be on your p's for a minimum of 3 years and then the turbo restrictions are off. I am able to drive turbo cars now that im 20 yrs old

I just put $2000 down for the exhaust cause when I called an exhaust shop, he said he would have to custom make one and I shoul dbudget between 1500 - 2000 for full catback/tips stainless steel etc etc. I only want the exhaust to make the car louder

As for callipers, Id rather pay a professional to do it, and for HIDs, id rather just spend the extra $200 to get proper lights.
